Self-harm

There is many type of self-harm, some are intentional, some are not. For instance, someone that is angry and punch the wall and harm his fingers... this is self-harm, but it wasn't really intentional...

There is those the intentionally harm themselves to have some sort of pleasure(mazo)...

And those that harm themselves for various reasons, an anxiety disorder may be behind that, those suffering of depersonalisation and/or derealisation as well often harm themselves to feel something...

In any cases, harming oneself intentionally without rational reasons in the proper sense of the term is not normal, and there is an underlying causes which needs to be treated.

Domino, but then people would disagree on what constitutes the bulk of "rational" or valid reasons for self-harm. It is relative, after all, because of differing mentalities and personalities. Hence the problem with stereotyping people.

You do have a point here...

But, maybe my uses of the word was not appopriate. Here one example of self-harm that could be considered as rational.

You have a foot struck somewhere and you need to cut your own foot to be able to leave that place to survive... you commit self-harm by cutting your foot... but you did that for a clear rational reason.

What I mean by rational reason... but I must admit that there may be way to relativise it... let me meditate about the question a little, I may come up with a patch. ;)
