America-Hye
Stephen Kinzer again is an apologist for Turkey. Obfuscating the issue again. Who the hell cares about the sensitivities of Turks about thier miserable history vis-a-vis the Genocide. Their view of what happened does not nullify that they are not ready to even return property to the families of those killed or herded out of their ancestral lands. We are not talking about reparations here, just the rights of minorities whose lands were confiscated.
gurgen
At least he makes an effort. I don't think demanding property back is very realistic now or in the near future. Right now Turkey has to focus on apologizing and acknowledging.
America-Hye
Gurgen, That is a pipe dream. They will not apologize nor acknowledge that the whole operation was directed from Constantinople (Istambul). The best we can hope for is that they honor the property rights of their former citizens without acknowledging the circumstances of their deaths. They can save face by saying that they are ready to repatriate and honor the property rights. I do not think that they will ever admit that it was a centrally planned Genocide. gurgen
On what grounds then, are they going to give back the property? For if they did not commit genocide, they have nothing to make up for.
America-Hye
Whether or not it was the government who killed the Armenians, they still have the property rights to lands they held. Whether the killings were a Genocide or not is immaterial to that issue.
