Time To Go To Armenia

Hiya, what is the best time of the year to go to Armenia? Rather, what would be the best month? If I were to want to set aside ten days to two weeks, would return with a lot of photos, so I'd rather it be sunny than cloudy and rainy (yuck). Actually, yeah, rain would be my biggest issue. Shouldn't be too cold, either, so anytime beginning spring and as soon as it is not going to be with killer precipitation, please.

My first idea thus far is after April 20.

So being there on time for April 24 would be risky business? I mean, even overcast skies are OK - but rain is out of the question. :(

Is June excluded or included in "to June"? FYI, I am not deterred by heat.

Alternately, I could also go in the summer (until August or so) if this can guarantee me sunny skies most of the time. It's likely going to be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, hence I'd like to get the best of it. I just would have liked to observe what goes on on April 24, which is a sooner date rather than later (and the sooner that I can muster). If at other times I'd like to coincide them with other national events, which I have yet to list out.

At some point I'd also like to work out an itinerary on a day-by-day basis and consult you folks with experience for feasibility. You could also point out things I wouldn't know about. Important fact is that I am going to be interested in historical and cultural stuff rather than checking out the bars and cafes - you have them everywhere in the world - so you heed me and don't even dare suggest.

Stormy, April is good, lots of sunshine and cool, around 18-25c pending where in Armenia, although being high altitude country in can change in a short notice, worst month to visit is March, but by end of April it’s very pleasant and colorful, and you get to smell the flowers in the air. I was in Armenia June-July in 2002 and it wasn’t bad, August is very hot and humid. Check out the link bellow it might help. But I agree sep-oct is the best time to visit. Velvet, golden season.

Stormy, you may want to check out this: http://www.geocities.com/chrisarmenia/yerevan.html

Some of the building in Yerevan are buitiful, but they need urgent face lift. I don't understand why everything should be dark. If they repaint them and put some appropriate lightening it would be tottaly different story. Some of the buildings remind me Washington Heights in NY. Probably because those in Yerevan were build during the Stalin era, and those in NY were build during McCartism. B)

I've only been there in early september - weather perfect: not to hot, not too cold, but the landscape was very bare and dried up by then.

However, there is a lot of variety in the climate in Armenia - the Yerevan plain is a lot warmer than northern areas around Gumru or mountainous areas in Artsak. And I'd guess that the heat and humidity there is close to unbearable in high summer.

And turn them into the architectural equivalent of whores? No building should ever be painted or floodlit. Anybody suggesting otherwise should be whitewashed and stuck in a continuously lit room for a few weeks 'til they regain their sense of decency.
