hi,hyeforum. can anybody help telling me measures for A-duduk or at least the length of it & the spread between holes.i have a C-duduk from master SAM & no problem with it.but my other duduk is from Armenia & is not marked.i do not know its key. it is 35 cm long, 21,4 cm #1 to #9 hole.is there any such duduk at all & what key is it? i met varpet gasparyan after a concert of his & asked him about my duduk, but we could not quite understand each other, because we talked russian.however, he tried it out with his reeds & assured me,this was " ne plohoi " instrument. but now it is not quite good, for i opened its holes "a little" trying to correct them.so i decided to built an A-duduk,because at present i cannot afford buying one.

Hello Maman, Welcome to HyeForum.

We have our grand master who can help you on the Duduk. He is MosJan.

We also have few very good players who show up here once in a while, but I think your first resort would be Movses.

sorry,Domino, but i may have misundurstood your remark.my question was about measures, not about tones.you see,i have no problem with making out tones. actually i tried playing in Bb-key with a longer reed & C-duduk,but this is not quite right,is it. generally one needs the right duduk, then the right reed in order to try out sth. more.

HI

At first we need to know if this is a souvenir or not.

wan using your C SAM duduk reed on this duduk what key do you get from #1 and #6 holes ???

Then you need to give me the measurements of the

#1 measurements - top to bottom

#2 measurements from the top to the first hole

#3 measurements from the #1 hole to #6 hole

#4 inside hole diameter

#5 outside diameter

#6 measurements from bottom of your duduk to the bottom hole or if it’s on top the top hole

tell me if you see any differedence different in the holes , such will be #6 hole

if the inside hole is smooth or is it tempered – like it gets bigger or smaller

also it well help me if you get me some pictures of it.

if you let me know this I can tell you 99% if you have a good duduk or not -

If you need more help on duduk’s or if you need instructions stop by at our web page – www.duduk.com

hi,MosJan. thanks for replying. i think that my C-duduk is not a souvenier, since it was bought on-line from www.duduk.com. i dont have a picture of it,but i can tell you its measures.

31 cm long,12 mm internal diameter, thumb hole is 5,0 cm from top,

3,2 cm from top to #1 hole

3,8 cm to #2

2,8 cm #3

2,7 cm #4

2,3 cm #5

2,7 cm #6

2,4 cm #7

2,4 cm #8

3,8 cm to bottom hole

2,2 cm outside diameter

#6 to #7 hole inside diameter varies

as for duduk instructions,i have read them a 1000 times, but you see nothing about measures there. & i just wanted to know sth. about A-duduk- length at least, & distance from top to last hole/not counting bottom hole/.

hi,MosJan. i didnt get your question from 1 time. actually i have already tried with the C-duduk reed,but it is just 9 cm long & things are not good. i dont know if the other is an A-duduk /it is not marked/. it came with a 12 cm reed & play in Bb rather than A. in A it was not good- i mean my low A & G# were flat,while B & F# are ok,at the same time E & F#high are sharp,though i close all holes. however, its measures /before i gave them a hand up & down,now they are too wide & not quite circular/ were: 35,5 cm total length; 6 cm from top to thumb;

4,3 cm to#1 hole

3,4 cm 2

3,1 cm 3

3,1 cm 4

2,7 cm 5

3,0 cm 6

3,1 cm 7

2,8 cm 8

4,0 cm 9

hi,MosJan. thanks a lot for the useful information. from what i get it was an A-duduk. what about holes-SAM says they should be 1 cm in diameter, but my C-duduk has 9mm ones & i think they are better for the sake of obertones /if you know what i mean/. how do you think ? take the clarinet for instance /1 cm holes, but its internal diameter is about 1,5-2,0 cm; the same is situation with kaval/. however, you say 11mm internal diameter & it varies, but did you mean 11mm basically, for mine is mainly 12mm & masterSAM says 12mm as well. i am asking this, because i paid attention to Djivan Gasparyan"s duduk & i think it was a bit thinner, which may mean it has a smaller diameter from inside also. but,you see,it is just what i thought. maybe,i did not see quite well. nevermind, this is another matter. bye now. hyesalute ! RESPECT !
