Armen
what's all this russian-armenian thing about? why do they attach russian to it, when apperently what this people do has nothing to do with russia, russians, or russian mafia? it just adds this cool factor to it? or it's just a way of for some people to alienate themselves from it, by saying "it's not us, it's them, the russian-armenians"? style_images/master/snapback.png Harut jan, in the U.S. news must be exciting because it's a commodity and must have a good brand and a good "wrap". Indeed, "Russian" adds drama to the whole thing. Moreover, it makes an average American to recognize geographcally where those people approximately come from. To Americans in most part, USSR was Russia, but if you paid close attention another ethnic group such as Jews who commit crimes, the media is so sensitive referring it as Jewish criminals, or Russian Jews, it is just Russian, Russian mafia, I was watching a program on investigative reports about red mafia, and there activities here in the US. Large number of Jewish criminals were emigrated and expelled to US (by the way, every single family who came here in US originally had an Israeli visas and just obtained a political refugee status in Europe) in early 80’s mostly to Brighton beach NY, and some here in LA engaging in every criminal act but during the whole program you hardly heard the word Jewish. Nané
Well, from what I have heard, the Armenian so called mafia is connected to and supported by the Russian mafia. So I don't think using the Russian name is a sales tactic.

Mafia cannot exist in societies like present Armenia. Those are just small crime groups. However, it exists in Russia and there are Armenians among them. But that is not Armenian organised crime. Unless you're a friend of the state (meaning the state has business with you) you will be stopped after some limit. They will not become that big. Armenian crime is not a style of life. They go out of it as soon as they have some capital. You could see this in Russia. Most of them are respected businessmen now Like bankers, big car dealers or construction firms.
