Do you have WinXP? I noticed win XP has something built in ... or maybe it's something that comes with office xp with voice recognition. I tried it once and it works pretty well.

You have to train it a bit of course, just like any other good software.

But I usually type faster than I can talk so never had any use for one of those things. I'm sure Azat knows more about this.

Dear Edward, there are 3 speech recognition engines for the PC that are reasonably priced. Microsoft Speech Engine($0.00), Dragon(30-$100) and IBM Via Voice. The Application that Stormy was recommending uses the MS SR. They all are pretty good, but just not good enough for majority of users especially if you have an accent.

I would say that Via Voice is the best of the 3 and is probably 90-95% accurate after a bit of training. Not too bad, but that means on a single page you are going to have about 5-10 misrecognitions. The best thing you can do is buy a nice microphone. Don't use the desk mics or the built in mics. Spend 20-40 dollars and get a nice Plantronics or Andrea head mic that has some noise filtering. It will improve the recognition alot. Also spend 4-8 hours on training the SR package you get. This too will increase the SR reliability.

I wish you had asked this question few months back. I had access to free packages also mics.

Good luck.
