Years ago, the announcement of a System Of A Down reunion launched
excitement and rumors of new music from the Armenian metal band.

Unfortunately, fans would later receive confirmation that a new album
was in fact not in the works.

Despite this, listeners around the world have clung tight to the
band's announcements, hoping that something great would still come
from the reformation of the group. Today, some of those fans are
going to feel quite lucky.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, System Of
A Down have booked several European dates in 2015 including their first
ever show in their home country- a free performance in Yerevan's public
square. Additional shows in Moscow, London, Cologne, and Amsterdam
have also been announced as part of the 'Wake Up The Souls Tour.'

You can check out a tour annoucement video from the band below,
as well as a full list of dates. Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov 28.

The world-renowned rockers have announced a "Wake Up the Souls" tour
in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide centennial - and will play a
gig in London

System of a Down have announced an upcoming tour in the capital - for
the first time since 2005 - as part of their European Wake up the
Souls tour.

The band who have sold over 31-million copies since forming in 1998,
will play Wembley's SSE Arena on April 10 , their first indoor UK gig
since 2005.

System of a Down's upcoming tour is to commemorate the 100th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and in tribute of the lives lost.

In a statement, the band said: "System of a Down will commemorate the
100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with their Wake Up The
Souls Tour, commencing on April 10 and concluding with their
first-ever performance in Armenia with a free show in Yerevan's
Republic Square".

Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 28 at 10am.

Fear not, because System of a Down's weekend set at KROQ Almost
Acoustic Christmas won't be their only U.S. show in the near future.

The band confirmed Saturday with KROQ that they will make a stop in Los
Angeles once again on April 6 at the Forum for the kickoff of their
Wake Up the Souls tour. System of a Down had previously announced
the tour last month, noting that it was designed to coincide with
the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide in Turkey.

"We said we should celebrate the fact that we're here on stage, on
the radio telling you about [the genocide]," bassist Shavo Odadjian
explained to KROQ. "We got to that level. Let's not mourn 100 years
what has already happened. By educating, you raise awareness. By
raising awareness, you grow peoples' minds."

"The way we do it, we have our show, and the people that want to take
information away from that, and the people who want to just come and
enjoy the show also have that freedom," drummer John Dolmayan added.

The remainder of the Wake Up the Souls tour had already been announced,
with shows in Europe and ending with their first show in Armenia.

"It's kind of like a full circle," frontman Serj Tankian said about
coming to perform in Armenia, where all four band members have
ancestral ties. "From the beginning of this band, we didn't plan on
being four Armenians in a band together; it just kind of turned out
that way. But it's our personal story, you know? The genocides affected
all of us--our families and our losses. And it's also a justice that
needs to be resolved. It's not just to do with Armenians, it's having
to do with genocide still occurring now and it has to do with the
fact that there's still not any executable international response to
genocide that might happen right now."

Tickets go on sale for the April 6 show at 10 a.m. this Friday on
Ticketmaster. KROQ will also be giving away tickets to the show all
this week, in addition to a grand prize VIP ticket giveaway.

It's unknown if the band will return to the U.S. for any more shows
in 2015.

Haykakan Zhamanak: George Clooney to visit Armenia with System of a Down

Hollywood star George Clooney will arrive in Armenia in April 2015 together with the rock band System of a Down, Haykakan Zhamanak reports. He will probably participate in the band’s Yerevan concert.
According to the newspaper, Clooney agreed to assist in the campaign for the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and will take part in the System of a Down’s tour dedicated to this issue.

Rumors of actor George Clooney joining System of a Down on the group’s upcoming 'Wake Up the Souls' tour are greatly exaggerated, Asbarez reports.
The band’s frontman, Serj Tankian told Asbarez “We have no information or knowledge about Clooney.”

Serj Tankian: We were looking into Turkey as one of dates of Wake Up Souls tour

Between their spasmodic rhythms and jagged melodies, System of a Down have always been committed to a sobering cause: raising recognition for the Armenian genocide of 1915. The group's self-titled debut LP contained a song called "P.L.U.C.K.," in which frontman Serj Tankian sang "A whole race, genocide/Taken away all of our pride," and over the years the band has held several one-off "Souls" concerts to help raise awareness of the tragedy.
Now the group, whose members are all children of survivors, is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the genocide – in which Ottoman Turks began arresting and executing some 1.5 million Armenians, something that Turkey and several countries still refuse to recognize officially – with an international tour named "Wake Up the Souls." This will end on April 23rd, the day before Armenia commemorates the anniversary, with the group's very first performance in the country of their ancestors. The band plans on livestreaming the concert so people all over the world can watch, Rolling Stone says on its website.
Why have you decided to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide with a tour?
This is a recommitment and expansion of some of the work that we've been doing with the Armenian genocide for years. The whole "Souls" concept became a tour, and it's something that we all believe in because we're all children of survivors of the genocide. It's important for the recognition of the genocide as an end result, as well as attaining justice.
What are the steps toward attaining justice?
I think for us it's important for Turkey to know its own history in a truthful manner. It's not just about the genocide of the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians, but what's going on now. There are no executable international agreements that have to do with stopping the genocide. Irrespective of a number of great U.N. bodies and even U.S.-based bodies in terms of genocide prevention, there's no binding resolution on any genocide or holocaust occurring. We still see them happening. I read in today's press that they discovered a mass grave in Deir Ezzor in Syria of ISIS massacres of this one tribe there, and it reminded me of all the bones that are under those sands in Deir Ezzor from the first genocide of the 20th century in the exact same place. If that's not symbolism, I don't know what is.
Your grandparents both lived through the Armenian genocide. What did they tell you about it?
They had these incredible, haunting stories of their survival. They were both toddlers, small children. My grandmother and her grandmother were saved by a Turkish mayor in a small city, as they were being marched through Turkey toward Syria, toward Deir Ezzor, the desert. They were saved in that way. My grandfather lost the majority of his family on the pogrom. He ended up in a number of different orphanages and ended up in Lebanon, in terms of finding a home there and growing up there. Just really heart-wrenching stories.
When my grandfather was still alive, we had them on camera for this film that we were part of called Screamers. It was a nice partial telling of his story, which was very fulfilling for me. We got a camera crew to tape 16 hours of these important stories that are disappearing because the survivors are almost all gone.
You've played in Armenia as a solo artist. How was that experience for you?
It was really amazing. The first time was with my band, the F.C.C., on my solo tour throughout Europe. We played a show in a beautiful, large theater. The second time, I played with an Armenian orchestra called the Opera Orchestra of Armenia. We played at the opening of a non-profit technology center called Tumo. There were about 11,000 people in this beautiful courtyard by a park, on a built stage overlooking this gorgeous gorge. It was truly amazing. A lot of youth, a lot of excitement. It was really very encouraging as to what the future of Armenia has to embrace.
Have you gotten a sense of how people there feel about the band doing this concert?
In Armenia, our status is unparalleled. I don't want to use any monikers like the Beatles or anything, but it's a unique kind of thing. So we want to go there and play for the people, which we've never done as System of a Down. It's quite exciting.
How is it that System of a Down have never played Armenia?
You know, that's a really good question. I don't have a direct answer to that. We've been asked to play, but it's never transpired either due to timing or the challenge of investment in infrastructure. It takes time for any of the large performance infrastructure to take place.
Has the band ever played in Turkey?
No. We were looking into Turkey as one of the dates of this Wake Up the Souls tour. We needed to get permission from the government, based on our outspokenness about the genocide and against the actions of [then-Turkish Prime Minister Recep] Erdoğan's government in particular. At the time, the new prime minister had just stepped in, which was the old foreign minister, and of course Erdoğan became president and left the prime minister's post. We waited a while, but we never got a response, so we planned the rest of the tour.
What is your relationship with Turkish fans like? It must be hard for you not to be able to play for them.
Totally. I personally want to go play there. Our relationship with them has been really cool. Years ago, someone planted things in the Turkish press trying to denounce us, I'm assuming an agent of the government, saying that we've done things that we've never done. So we put up something on our website saying that all of this is misinformation, please don't listen to it. It's all lies. Our fans were the ones that protected us in Turkey. They wrote to the editors of those newspapers who were planting this misinformation, this disinformation, and fought for us. Our jaws dropped. Here we have fans in Turkey that are protecting System of a Down. No society is unipolar.
Do you think Turkey will ever recognize the genocide?
I think it's very possible. I just read that there is a resolution for recognition for all past crimes, including the Armenian genocides – named specifically – that was just introduced to the Turkish parliament by a minority Kurdish MP, Sebahat Tuncel. Although I'm sure they don't have majority to pass it, that's an amazing sign not just of courage for her to bring that up, but that times could be changing, and that's a positive thing.
Speaking of times changing, there are Armenian celebrities drawing attention to the genocide lately.
Absolutely. For all the flak people give Kim Kardashian, I could say that with her yearly commemorations of the Armenian genocide and spreading that word, she's been valuable. She's been great.
She can raise a lot of awareness.
Absolutely. She's got more Twitter people than I do, that's for sure [laughs].
Shifting topics, it's been 10 years since the last System of a Down album. Are you guys talking about making a new one yet?
There has been talk, and we are going to play this tour, come back and we're going to see where we are. If we have songs that work for System, if I have them and Daron [Malakian, guitar] has them. The openness is there to work together, but we haven't made any particular plans that we can announce.
Have you personally written songs with System in mind?
I have a few that could apply, but I'm not sure until the time comes where I can actually play them for the guys and see if it's something that vibes off them.
Right now, I'm actually focusing on a film score. It's actually a really cool score, and it's for a film based on, again, the genocide. That's all I'm dealing with right now. It's called 1915. It's a very interesting drama that's actually shot in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Theater, a very old and distinguished theater. It's a really, really interesting psychological thriller, modern story. It deals with denial and the psychological impacts of a genocide rather than the physical aspects of it.
Getting back to a new System album, I'm sure your fans are curious where you're at.
They will be the first to know. Fans will know before the press knows, I assure you.

American-Armenian model Kim Kardashian will arrive in Armenia in April together with the rock band System of a Down on the occasion of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, Haykakan Zhamanak writes.

KARDASHIAN SISTERS ANNOUNCE FIRST-EVER TRIP TO ARMENIA

The Kardashian sisters have taken over half the globe to date. Next
stop: Armenia.

Khloe Kardashian, Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian are planning
to travel to their paternal ancestral homeland in April, E! News has
exclusively learned.

The specifics are still being worked out for their family milestone
journey, but Kim is set to take daughterNorth West with her, while
Kourtney will be traveling with kids Mason,Penelope and Reign as well.

Several cousins are also expected to be along for the
continent-crossing ride.

Kim's hubby, Kanye West, will make the trip if his upcoming touring
schedule allows.

"Visiting Armenia has been on Kim's list forever," a family insider
tells. "They are all so excited! They want to learn about their
heritage."

The Kardashian sisters' late father, Robert Kardashian, was born
to Armenian-American parents and his great-grandparents were ethnic
Armenian immigrants from a part of Turkey that at the time belonged
to the Russian Empire (which toppled in 1917).

The sisters have always culturally identified with their Armenian
roots, annually paying tribute to victims of the Armenian Genocide,
which occurred in what is now modern-day Turkey, and otherwise proudly
recognizing their heritage. Kim has also spoken out about the plight
of Syrian Armenians caught up in the ongoing civil war in Syria.

In 2011, when Kim landed on the cover of Turkish Cosmopolitan, she
was upset that the magazine put out the issue at a time that coincided
with the global Genocide Remembrance Day, April 24, reusing the same
cover shot that had been used for the inaugural issue of Armenian
Cosmopolitan the previous month.

"Cosmopolitan Magazine has a number of international editions all
around the world that run in various territories, and when I did
this shoot for the international covers I had no idea that Turkey
was planning to run my story on their cover THIS month, considering
Genocide Remembrance Day is this month," Kim said at the time.

"My Armenian heritage means a lot to me and I've been brought up to
be incredibly proud of my family's background and culture so as an
Armenian-American woman it is a huge honor for me to be on the first
ever Armenian Cosmopolitan cover."

Kardashian are planning a trip to Armenia.

The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' stars are said to be "so excited"
at the prospect of visiting their late father Robert Kardashian's
ancestral homeland some time in April.

A source told E! News: "Visiting Armenia has been on Kim's bucket
list forever.

"They are all so excited! They want to learn about their heritage."

Details of the trip are still being finalised, but the sisters
are expected to be accompanied by some of their cousins and Kim,
34, is keen for her 17-month-old daughter North to join the group,
while Kourtney plans to take her three kids, Mason, five, Penelope,
two, and four-week-old Reign.

Kim's husband Kanye West also hopes to be there if his schedule allows,
though it is not clear whether Kourtney's partner Scott Disick will
make the trip.

Kim has previously admitted visiting Armenia is her "dream".

She has said: "People ask all the time if I am from there and
unfortunately I have never been to Armenia, but it's my dream to go
there for sure!"

And the brunette beauty has also admitted her father - who died of
cancer in 2003 - would be very "proud" of how she and her sisters
embrace their heritage.

She has said: "My great-grandfather was Armenian and my
great-grandmother Turkish-Armenian. My mother is English, so I am half
Armenian, but, I was raised with a huge Armenian influence, always
hearing stories of Armenia, eating Armenian food and celebrating
Armenian holidays.

"My father would be so proud that we talk about our Armenian heritage!

My dad used to always tell us to never remove the -ian from our last
name like some Armenians that came to the US.

THE KARDASHIAN SISTERS PLAN TO VISIT THEIR ANCESTRAL HOME IN ARMENIA WITH THEIR KIDS

The Kardashian sisters are planning a trip to their ancestral home
in Armenia. Kim Kardashian, who has always been spreading awareness
about the Armenian Genocide, will make her trip to Armenia with
her baby North West. It is not sure if her husband Kanye West will
accompany them or not but Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian
will accompany Kim to the land of their late father Robert Kardashian,
various websites are suggesting. Kourtney will reportedly take her
three kids Penelope, Mason and Reign too on the upcoming trip, E Online
is saying. Robert Kardashian, the father of the Kardashian sisters,
was born to parents who were Armenian and American. According to the
website, Robert's great-grandparents were ethnic Armenian immigrants
from a part of Turkey that came under the Russian Empire back then. The
Russian Empire, however, was destroyed in 1917.

The Kardashian sisters will be joined by their cousins in Armenia. The
family is very excited to learn about their roots. "Visiting Armenia
has been on Kim's bucket list forever. They are all so excited! They
want to learn about their heritage," an insider source is quoted
as saying by E Online. Kim is quite proud of her Armenian roots and
has also been spreading awareness about the Armenian Genocide. Her
efforts were recently applauded by band System of a Down. "For all
the flak people give Kim Kardashian, I could say that with her yearly
commemorations of the Armenian genocide and spreading that word,
she's been valuable. She's been great," System of a Down frontman
Serj Tankian is quoted as saying by Rolling Stone magazine.

In March 2014, the 34-year-old reality television star also tweeted
her thoughts about the then ongoing civil war in Kessab town of Syria.

Kim said that everyone should put in efforts to make "#SaveKessab
#ArmenianGenocide" trending on social media as the history of genocide
should not "repeat itself." She pleaded with her fans to google about
the plight of people in Kessab as it is "very heartbreaking." Kim also
told her fans that she grew up listening to "so many painful stories"
about Armenia.
