How many of you really celebrate Armenian Christmas?

I know that my family hardly acknowledges it anymore. This is due in part due to living in the US, plus most of my Armenian family are Protestants. How many of you guys and gals celebrate Armenian Christmas? Also, is the salted fish traditionally Christmas for all Armenians, or only Barskahays? We always eat it with kuku sabzi(well, when we did celebrate Armenian Christmas in Iran).

Nahh, we don't really celebrate it. Never did in Armenia either. Since we came here, I practically made my parents adopt the Christmas on the 25th tradition, so that was that. My mom is more religious than all of us combined (and she's still not all that religious...lol) so she might mention it's Armenian Christmas today, she'll remember it...but that's it...

The celebration of January 6 Christmas has been inreasingly active since 1991. Now it is being celebrated almost in its full sence. We light a candle at midnight and let it burn the whole night. We cook fish and rice, drink red wine. Most of the people do it with their families but not with friends.

The events you have at January 24 and forward are almost similar to ours at December 31-January 3 period. Like parties, going out, eating like that's you last day alive.

We always celebrated the 25th. I don't think there is a chance to celebrate the 6th where i live, cuz i live with an a-hole who gets mad when i mention anything about Armenia or where i came from, hes like "if u don't like it here go the *uck back to fn russia or armenia"

so basically i have never celebrated the 6th.

What do Armenians traditionaly do on the 6th/ can someone please fill me in?

Who treats you this way??? Is this your step-father?

It's perfectly natural to talk about other places you've lived. Especially when you've made such a significant move. Hell, I still think and talk about cities I lived in that are only 20 minutes from where I live now!

We always kept the tree up until the 6th to recognize Armenian Christmas. I haven't in recent years because the trees keep getting way too dry and I'm not a fan of house fires. Maybe this year, the ol' tree will make it...

Well im sad to damit it is his crib , but i don't think he has the right to say that. My mom just ignores him. I don't care what he says i wont stop studying armenian or soviet/russian history. He calls me a communist and this and that because im always on the soviet history sites. When i tell my mom something about Armenia he always goes "armenia this armenia that what the f&^% you come here for if all you talk about is armenia or russia" but all he is is an ignorant german Nazi. '

I had a guy call me a communist just cuz he saw my screen name on a game site armenian_2001 ...... man he got me pisssed of . he was 41 years old and if he dont know that armenia aint communist he is a real dumb ass. Armenias history spans an era before the Russian state and i toild him this but yall know how them ignorant american rednecks are. He just kept goin on about "accept our power you commies" well ignorant ppl live every where i just ignore them

Alex, our similarities continue...Growing up I had to deal with a couple of my mom's boyfriends that were idiots. Although they were not as attacking as this guy sounds. I'm glad to read you can put his comments in their proper perspective.

Ignoring people like that is tha best thing , thier ignorance and hate of foreighners( when this country is made up of them) will keep them encapsulated in thier little hate zone, we don't have to be a part of it.

We celebrated "Surb Tsnund" in Armenia and we have been continuing the tradition for the past 13 years we have been in the states. In Armenia, we would spend New Years Eve at my granparents house (and exchange gifts) and stay over untill the 6th of January (they lived in another city). We would have rice with raisins, fish and ququ for dinner on the 5th. We do pretty much the same here.

We don't really celebrate December 24/25 (maybe with friends).

PS. Alex !!! You really need to get your behind out of that place. As soon as you think you can make it on your own, move to Cali (at least for a few years).
