Forget-me-not to symbolize centenary of Armenian genocide

YEREVAN, May 27. / ARKA /. A flower called ‘forget-me-not’ has been chosen as the symbol of a long string of events that will be dedicated to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, to be marked in 2015. The graphic image of the symbol was developed by Sharm company, chief of the presidential staff, Vigen Sargsyan, said today.

According to him, forget-me-not was chosen from dozens of proposals submitted to a contest by a working group established by the state commission for coordination of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. He said forget-me-not has actually the same meaning in all languages - to remember, not to forget.

He said the symbol depicts the 12 stone slabs of the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial in Yerevan while the five petals represent the five parts of the world where Armenians found shelter after the Genocide creating the vast Armenian Diaspora.

He said the motto of events dedicated to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide will be "We remember and demand…”

"This is an individualized motto, aimed at making each of us, when saying it to recall the story of his/her family and the experienced tragedy, and convey our demand in this context to the world”, he said.

Sargsyan was speaking at the fourth meeting of the state commission for coordination of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which was chaired by the head of the commission, President Serzh Sargsyan. -0-
