I said up above that for some reason, I think Armenian men are short. Just my family isn't and appartently, people around here aren't either. I searched earlier on the Net for "Armenian" & "height", but no luck (hey, you never know what you're going to find).

(Here, Steve) As a statistician, I have to say the sample we have here is not fully credible and therefore we cannot extrapolate our heights to the entire Armenian male population.

What can I say....

I am about 5'5 and I think it's OK for an Armenian girl

What I noticed is that Most of the Armenians are either very short or VERY tall!

Have you seen some of those SASUNCI guys???

They are giants!

There is no doubt about their "pure blood",Steve!

Armenia once was a very big country and people from different geographical regions looked different.

As far as I know, the oneS that lived in a valley (like araratian)used to be darker and shorter. And the once that lived in high mountains (like Sasoun)used to be lighter and taller.

Damn i would never have thought to get so many things on this subjetct

Well i have just one last question. I am almost 17 and 5'11 i wanted to know the age that males stop growing ( i heard 21-25) but im not sure. my desired height is 6'2 3 more inches some people predicted id be 6'1 because they are "experts" on this subject. but seriously though does anyone know when a male stops growing (average) i think it would be possible for me to reach that height i have a not so short aunt on my moms side and some her relatives are from 6'1- 6'8. her uncle is a football player somewhere in armenia i think.

Alex, I think it's 21, on average, that is..

Nvard jan, Sasuntsi guys rock, don't they... lol...I was filled with such pride when I read that...It's said in my family that my great-grandfather was so tall and so strong that he made a pillar in our ancestral home bend(!!!) by rubbing his back against it every so often...lol...so there we go, no argument about the undisputed height and strength of sasuntsi men here! (although their manners should be questioned given this story and given the temper of the men in my family...lol)

(and davit, i'll brag about my roots all i want, thank you very much!!!!...lol)

(by the way, we still have that land and that huge house, although i don't think anyone keeps it up anymore...any ideas about what we could do with it????) (talk about digressing...lol...sorry)

Its hard to figure out the average height of Armenians, but in general in comparison say to Rassians, Armenians are short. However in comparison to Asians, Armenians are tall. I think it depends on racial characteristics, so we Armenians in my opinion are average and similar to people of south Europe, and Caucasus.

OK,

Let me try to summarize the results.

Those of us who are tall believe that we are tall race. Those of us who are short think that we are average or above average.

My conclusion is that we are TALL,DARK AND HANDSOME!

btw MJ is 6.2!

Ay ay ay - Steve - where did you get that?

Ruski Muski? He he he...

Yes, you have seen very few tall Armenians - that is because you mainly deal with Iranian Armenians - and (no hard feelings) Iranian Armenians tend to be shorter on average. Not sure why.

For the record:

I think we are average as a race. I am 5'7" myself and think that's not bad for an armenian girl. I have mostly had a problem with guys being shorter than me not taller Which brings me to my next conclusion - most Armenian guys seems to be short. But I don't think this was always the case. What are you guys doing that stops you from growing????!!?!??!?!?!?! He he he ... Lav chi

During my last two visits to Armenia I noticed that the new generation girls are talle than the guys. While it used to be the opposite during the 70's and 80's, even the early 90's. Do you think it's the western influence? He he he ...

Sulamita jan, I have seen the whole gamut of Armenians, I assure you. Most of the Armenians I went to High School with were Lipanahays. I run into Hayastansis all the time, and I don't see much difference.

well im still not sure if we are tall or short . my mom has and uncle who is 6'7 and a cousin who is 6'8 her brother was 6'1 every one on her grandmothers side was pretty tall (over 6'0) so that leads me to believe that armenians aren't all that short. In the usa average height for a male is 5'10 in iceland its 5'11 i think in armenia depends on where you look . i am pretty happy with my height 1 inch above average for a us male (but i still wanna reach 6'2)

Thanks gayane . I had a male role model (my pops) but i don't think i can't admire what he does he doesn't act confident and he beat the crap out of my mom and me . he is the only man i really had as a role model. Those beatings took alot of confidence away from me so now i am very shy and i have to gain my confidence back. im on a very long road to regain my confidence.

lol......sorry it sounds like another tragic tale ......heh

Only because it is, Alex. It is for too many Armenian families. But that's not to say there's no way out, there are ways of healing. Therapy is one of them. I think everyone (regardless of their family history, etc) should go through at least some therapy. It can be very beneficial. They actually make you do hours if you're studying psych in grad school!!...lol...can't wait!!

My dad wasn't armenian (thank god) he was jewish/ukranian/tatar . He blamed his temper on his childhood (abused, malnutrition, rough) well all I can say is tough. I know when i get older and get married (questionable) im gonna treat my wife like an angel and same for my kids. There is no excuse for laying a hand on a woman or a small child. I tired getting therapy but its with a school psychologist. It helped a little. I think every one is capable of controling themselves

because its ultimately up to the individual to make the choice to either commit an act (whether it has positive or negative effects) or not to commit it. Well anyway thats why I was so i guess obsessed with my height I wanted to be tall and big so nobody could beat me up anymore. Ill get over it .

Are armenian men controlling in general Gayane? I never knew that.

Alex jan

You're so young and innocent...so cute...lol, but you know what that means, right? That means we all get an equal chance to brainwash you into accepting our own personal way of thinking.

Lol, on your marks, get set...go!

I'm sorry, Alex, couldn't resist

But as tempted as I am to tell you "armenian men are this and armenian men are that" I think you have to figure this out on your own and adopt the things that you think desirable about armenian men and that you might want to develop in yourself.

What about Armenian women beating Odar husbands! LOL My mom can give my dad a good whack once in a while to keep him in his place! All kidding aside, my dad is a TRUE gentleman in the real sense of the word, he always treats my mom, his Armenian queen with respect. She reigns! I know I anger people when I say I am glad that my mom married an Odar over an Armenian. Well, my mom has too many cousins and friends who did marry "me lav Hay th'gha" who were beaten up and cheated on by these fine examples of our race. So once again, THANK GOD MY MOM MARRIED AN ODAR, LIKE IT OR LUMP IT!

Alex, I think you are a very courageous person to arrive at these conclusions for a person who must be quite young.

Farsi (I might even start calling you Halfy from know on - what do you think? Mabye not?)

Anyway from what I hear about your mum, she sounds like a stong clever and feisty woman - a real unique induvidual. If I ever met her somewhere she's probably be someone I would like to make friends with!
