AZERBAIJANI PROVOCATIONS IN FRENCH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AIMED AT BREAKING DOWN DEMONSTRATION IN FRONT OF AZERBAIJANI EMBASSY

http://www.panorama.am/en/politics/2013/02/27/france-sumgait-meeting/

Yesterday, in one of the halls of the National Assembly of France

a conference titled "25 years after the Sumgait events: present

situation and future prospects for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh"

was held. The conference was marred by the Azerbaijani provocation.

At the end, the attendees stood to honor the memory of the victims

killed during Sumgait pogroms and kept a minute's silence. Two

Azerbaijani provocateurs, a girl and a young man, refused to stand

up and to honor the Armenian victims in Azerbaijan and started to

shout anti-Armenian slogans.

On the photos, published in "Nouvelles d'Armenie", it is obvious how

the Azerbaijani tries to provoke a fight and attacks the audience.

Azeri press disseminated false information about beating and causing

serious injuries, right up to fracturing, to provocateurs. In the

photos, published in the same Azerbaijani media, it is clearly visible

that there is no serious damage caused to both. Moreover, participants

of the provocation give contradicting evidence about the incident:

at first they say the girl was beaten together with the guy, then

they say she managed to leave the room.

Guard of the National Assembly took away the provocateurs. It is

also noteworthy that a moment later the employees of the Azerbaijani

embassy in Paris, headed by the Ambassador were at the place of the

incident which speaks of the pre-planned provocation.

Meanwhile, the Hay Dat French Bureau says: "We are dealing

with unacceptable provocation, which is aimed at disrupting the

demonstration, planned for February 28 at the Embassy of Azerbaijan.

We are intended to file a complaint against the instigators."

On 26-29 February 1988 in terms of actual complicity of local

authorities and inaction of the USSR government mass pogroms

of civilians were organized in Sumgait city of Azerbaijani SSR,

accompanied with unprecedented brutal murders, violence and pillaging

against the Armenian population of the city. Armenian pogroms in

Sumgait were carefully organized. At the meetings, which began on

February 26 in the central square, city leaders openly called for

violence against the Armenians.

On February 27 protests which were attended by hundreds of rioters

turned into violence. Armed with axes, knives, specially sharpened

rebar, rocks and cans of gasoline and with the pre-compiled lists of

apartments where Armenians lived the rioters broke into the houses,

turning everything upside down there and killing the owners. In

the same time, people were often taken out to the streets or to the

courtyard for jeering at them publicly. After painful humiliations

and torture the victims were doused with gasoline and burnt alive.

On February 29 army troops entered Sumgait but without an order to

intervene. Only in the evening, when the mad crowd began to attack

the soldiers the military units took up decisive steps.

The exact number of victims of Sumgait pogroms is still unknown.

According to official data, 32 people were killed; however there

is ample evidence that several hundred Armenians have been killed

in the city in three days. There is also evidence that the riots

were coordinated by KGB in Azerbaijan. Executioners of Sumgait were

subsequently declared as national heroes of Azerbaijan.

"ARMENIAN CAUSE" FRENCH OFFICE BRINGS ACTION AGAINST AZERI HOOLIGANS WHO INSULTED COMMEMORATION OF SUMGAITE VICTIMS

16:57, 27 February, 2013

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, ARMENPRESS. ARF "Armenian Cause" French Office

has brought an action against the tow Azerbaijanis, who showed

disrespect during the commemoration ceremony held in the French

Parliament on February 27. The event was entitled "Sumgait Events

after 25 Years: the Present Situation and Future Prospects for the

People of Nagorno-Karabakh". The Head of the "Armenian Cause" French

Office Hratch Varjabedian stated about this in a conversation with

"Armenpress". Hratch Varjabedian noted: "As a party we have already

demanded from the French authorities to bring an action against

the Azeris." He also said that the action for "physical, moral,

and expression aggression" has already been presented to the court.

Among other things Hratch Varjabedian laid a heavy emphasis on the

fact that the French police has approved that this was a provocation

initiated by the Azerbaijani embassy. Also Hratch Varjabedian said

"Only 5 minutes passed after the incident and the Ambassador of

Azerbaijan has appeared in the parliament alongside with his staff for

raising diplomatic complaint." In addition he underscored that minutes

FRANCE ANC SUES FRENCH PARLIAMENT AZERI ATTACKER

Azeri infiltrator attempts to punch ANC France's Hratch Varjabedian

PARIS-The Armenian National Committee of France has filed a lawsuit

against the two Azeris who incited a brawl Tuesday at the French

National Assembly during an event commemorating the 25th anniversary

of the Sumgait Pogroms.

"We have filed two criminal complaints, the first initiated by a young

French-Armenian, a victim of assault, the second by the Director of

ANC-France, organizer of the event," said Sevag Torossian, an attorney

representing the ANC -France.

A photograph taken at the time of the attack, corroborated by

several witnesses shows that the attacker was aiming to punch Hratch

Varjabedian, Director of the ANC-France, who asked the Azeri who had

infiltrated the event to take their seats and stop chanting hateful

and offensive slogans during the observance of a moment of silence

in memory of the Sumgait victims.

"The suit has been filed. The Prosecutor should determine the

conditions under which these two people, whose names were not on

the list of guests sent to the administration by the ANC of France,

could have entered the National Assembly," said a statement by the

organization.

"The Prosecutor should also clarify why a diplomatic delegation of

Azerbaijan was curiously at the scene moments after the attack,

not to mention the presence of Azeri journalists with cameras,"

added the statement.

"The diplomatic representation of Armenia, for its part, made all the

necessary arrangements with official bodies and strongly condemns

this provocative premeditated and orchestrated by the Embassy of

Azerbaijan," concluded the statement.

The event, co-sponsored by French Parliament member Francois Roshebloun

and was attended by several parliament members, was organized by

the ANC of France to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Azeri

pogroms in Sumgait.

Armenia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling the Azeri

inciters provocateurs and condemned the incident.

French National Assembly member and author of a bill criminalizing

the denial of the Armenian Genocide in France, Valerie Boyer, who was

present at the event called the incident "provocation and denialist

propaganda."

Azeri President Ilham Alieyv "encouraged the incident at the National

Assembly," said Boyer.

"This latest provocation once again proves that Azeris are not

interested in peace or the resolution of the Karabakh conflict. I ask

[French President] Francois Hollande to seek diplomatic measures to

end all denialist and hateful acts on French soil," said Boyer.

The Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in France (CCAF)

said Azerbaijan was trying to export its anti-Armenian racism to the

French Republic through inciting such acts.

"The country's president Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stated that

Armenians around the world are the Azeris' number one enemy," explained

the CCAF.
