Greenwood Glenview, Illinois 60025Contact: Raffi KillianTelephone: 847-830-1906, 312-831-3049 Conference on Anatolian Genocides to be held in May in Chicago The Asia Minor and Pontos Hellenic Research Center (AMPHRC), theArmenian National Committee of Illinois (ANC-IL), and the AssyrianCenter for Genocide Studies (ACGS) will be jointly hosting an academicconference entitled "The Ottoman Turkish Genocides of AnatolianChristians: A Common Case Study,' on May 10-11, 2013, in Chicago,Illinois. The goal of the conference is to promote academic and criticalexamination of the Genocides of the Armenians, Assyrians and Greeksperpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish government at the beginning of the20th century resulting in mass extermination of at least 2.5 millionChristians, the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of others, thetheft of vast amounts of wealth and property and the destruction ofthousands of cultural artifacts and religious sites. This conference will be an opportunity for an inter-disciplinaryinvestigation of the Ottoman Turkish Genocides as a large case studyconsisting of the individual cases - Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek -which can be comparatively examined to yield new insight into theoverall strategy, planning and execution of the campaign to eliminatethe native Christian populations of Asia Minor and its aftermath. Original research covering the following areas will be presented atthe conference: the Legal Aspects of the Genocides of the Armenians,Assyrians, and Greeks; Prelude, Causes and Aftermath of the OttomanTurkish Genocides; and the present state of Scholarship of the OttomanTurkish Genocides. A Call for Papers was issued in early January, 2013, announcingdetails of the conference to the academic community.
