He was asked to comment on Zhoghovurd paper's claim thatArmenian-Turkish negotiations have resumed for quite a long time andare being held secretly with Switzerland's mediation. Secretary of Heritage party Styopa Safaryan, asked about thepossibility of secret talks, said, "It is obvious as previouslythe U.S. secretaries of state have never visited Armenia with suchfrequency. And if they come here it means Armenia is important forthe USA. One of the important issues may be Armenian-Turkish relationsas well," he said. Armenia and Turkey signed protocols on establishment of diplomaticrelations between Armenia and Turkey and on development of bilateralrelations on October 10, 2009 in Switzerland. On February 12, 2010 theprotocols were already in the Armenian's parliament for ratification. A strong wave of protest rose both in Armenia and Diaspora withpeople saying 'no' to the protocols. Twelve parties have joined theprotesters. On April 22, 2010 a protocol has been adopted by theNA on suspending the ratification of Armenian-Turkish protocols, followed with Armenia's President's call to stop the process. Styopa Safaryan reminded that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clintonduring her regional visit in June 2012 referred to the issue voicingher interest in resuming the process.
