MJ
I invite all of us to start a discussion on the subject of the assimilation of Armenians both in historic and current contexts. What do you think has the scale of assimilation been, why do you think the number of Armenians around the world has been rather stagnant throughout history? What makes people to run from their Armenian identity?
gamavor
Without going into too many details, the main reason for assimilation is the lack of positive experiences as Armenians. Unfortunately this has been the case for centuries.
MJ
Gamavor, It's good to know that you are around. But why is it that we didn't have much positive experiences throughout history? And what do you think the scale of assimilation has been? Is it compareble to the loses in the Genocide, is it less, is it much more? MadArmo
Parev, MJ jan, I can see pattern between historical and current times. Our ancestors we forcibly relocated, Some were lucky enough to find host countries and build small and large communities, Offcourse we assimilated to our host cultures. Let's take my personal accounts in perspective, My father was born in Palistine, I was born in Beriut and during the civil war of Lebanon we moved to Los Angeles. My children are born in the states and called Armenian-Americans. All this in 70 year cycle... quote:Originally posted by MJ:I invite all of us to start a discussion on the subject of the assimilation of Armenians both in historic and current contexts.
