He recalled that the Ministry of Culture and the Yerevan Municipalityhave banned illegal construction in the backyard of the CoveredMarket. So, it was to be demolished. "Instead, there is an absurd situation. The construction is continued. A question arises as to whether the owner of the Covered Market reckonswith the opinion of the Municipality and the Ministry," he said. Research and Methodology Council of the Ministry convened on March6 and studied the issue of the Covered Market. The Council issued anexpert resolution saying that the back walls of the building must berestored and reinforced and the newly built concrete-constructionmust be demolished in line with the project. Afterwards, a projectof the market's restoration must be developed on the basis of a newresolution on the technical state of the building and submitted tothe Culture Ministry. To note, the Covered Market is included in the list of the historicalmonuments of Yerevan. It was built in 1952 by Armenian architectGrigory Aghababyan's project and has been considered one of thesymbols of the Armenian capital since then.
