"Karabakh must develop ties with countries in the fields of culture,education and religion," the official said, calling on the West toextend assistance to foster strengthening of Karabakh's statehoodand economy. Mr. Mikloško further hailed maintenance of Christian values in NKR,in contrast to Europe, that has already forgotten them. Dwelling on programs implemented in Karabakh through assistance ofSlovak enterprises, the politician dubbed the situation in the regionrather unfavorable for investors "in face of possible war with Iran." "However we will keep initiating project, hoping for appropriateperception of human values by the international community," heconcluded. "EU doesn't conceive yet that the Armenian Genocide denial led to suchdisasters as Nazism, Holocaust and later communist repressions," Mr. Mikloško told a press conference, noting Slovakia as the firstEuropean country to adopt the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocidedenial. "The French Constitutional Council is likely to pass its decisionon February 28. However, in light of recent developments there areno real chances for passage of the bill," Slovak politician said,adding that each human life is more valuable that freedom of speech. On January 23, the French Senate passed the bill criminalizing theArmenian Genocide. If signed into law, the bill will impose a 45,000euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France who denies thiscrime against humanity committed by the Ottoman Empire. At a news conference February 14, First Presidentof the National Council of Slovak Republic František Mikloško saidduring the recent years Nagorno Karabakh has registered noticeableprogress in the area of democracy. "Two years ago I was in Nagorno Karabakh as an observer at theelections, after it I stated that the elections were absolutely freeand fair," Mikloško said. According to him, the state has been recognized for already 20 yearsbut visiting it once you understand that it will never agree to benon-independent. "Nagorno Karabakh behaves itself just like otherindependent states. International organizations should assist Karabakhas it is exclusive democratic country," Mikloško stressed. He also praised Karabakh's commitment to its Christian roots andits readiness to fight for them till the end. "It is strange thatthe Christian Europe has forgotten its roots.
