Announcement came Friday in a press conference called in the Chamber of Advocates. Editor-in-chief of Zhamanak (Time) daily Arman Babajanyan, one of the initiators of the idea says the group hopes to “achieve the creation of an atmosphere in Armenia where a Diaspora Armenian feels defended and not deceived.” He went on to chastise the Ministry of Diaspora for its “pompous speeches”, and implicitly suggest that the ministry should uphold the cause.Attorney Lernik Hovhannisyan presents American-Armenian business Edmond Khurdian’s case. “Khurdian made an investment to construct a 13-storied building on Mashtots Avenue; however, he has received no money back. The head of the company and its employees have robbed him and some other investors – about 20 people, whom Khurdian has involved in the case. A total of $7 million has been stolen from them,” Hovhannisyan says. Khurdian who joined the press conference via Skype, said with regret that he was deceived by his Armenian partner Vladislav Mangasaryan, who had been introduced to him by Levon Sargsyan (brother of President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan). “They have generally appropriated $5 million. They have also shown that they lent Khurdian $2 million, however, in fact he did not sign any document about it,” Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates Nikolay Baghdasaryan says. A court claim was lodged yet in March; however, the director of the company has not been examined by now. http://www.armenianow.com/news/33364/chamber_advocates_diaspora_investmnets_cheating

Yervant1
DIASPORA BUSINESSMAN SWINDLED AND CHEATED IN ARMENIA http://www.a1plus.am/en/politics/2011/11/18/nikolay-baghdasaryanNovember 18, 2011 Serzh Sargsyan's brother Levon Sargsyan is involved in at least onelarge-scale fraud, "Zhamanak" daily editor Arman Babajanyan saidon Friday. With the participation of Levon Sargsyan, US Armenian businessmanEdmond Khudyan, who invested over 5 million dollars in Armenia, was made bankrupt. Who are Levon Sargsyan's 'accomplices'? Vice President of the Chamber of the Advocates Nikolay Baghdasaryannamed businessmen Vladislav Mangasryan and Edik Yesayan whoappropriated Khudyan's properties without his knowledge and pocketedmillions of dollars. According to Arman Babajanyan, Levon Sargsyan is the 'godfather'of this trickery. "It was Levon Sargsyan who introduced Vladislav Mangasryan to EdmondKhudyan and sponsored all illegal transactions throughout that time,"said the chief editor of Zhamanak daily. Edmond Khudyan, who was participating in the news conference viaSkype also gave the name of Serzh Sargsyan's brother saying he 'madeinvestments in Armenia on Sargsyan's advice.' What happened in reality? Edmond Khudyan invested 5 million dollars in Armenia and developeda high-rise building in the center of Yerevan. His partner andcontractor was Vladislav Mangasryan. Khudyan appointed Edik Yesayan, his long-time friend, as director of the company. In 2010, Vladislav Mangasryan, and EdikYesayan mutually decided tosell the flats and pocket the money without Khudyan's knowledge. Laterthey claimed that it was done to save the company from bankruptcy, for everybody's benefit. Since then E. Khudyan placed several lawsuits against the partiesto return stolen properties and to bring them to justice but thoseefforts have been unsuccessful. The lawyers today presented two similar cases of swindle mastermindedby the same people. They are going to establish a foundation thatwill defend the rights of Diaspora businessmen. Yervant1
EDMOND KHUDYAN: A WORD OF WARNING TO SYRIAN-ARMENIANS BEFORE INVESTING IN ARMENIA. http://hetq.am/eng/news/22410/edmond-khudyan-a-word-of-warning-to-syrian-armenians-before-investing-in-armenia.htmlJanuary 17, 2013 Hello, my name is Edmond Khudyan and I have a word of warning toSyrian-Armenians thinking about investing in Armenia. Before launching any commercial enterprise in Armenia, proceed withcaution when dealing with any officials, their relatives or anyso-called sponsoring services. I have ample cause to declare the need for such precautions. I was born in Tehran in 1965 and relocated to Armenia in 1971. I wentto school and worked in the Soviet Union until relocating to the U.S. with my parents in 1989. There, I started a successful business. Never for a minute did I give up on my dream of returning to Armeniaand starting a business. I got such an opportunity in 2004 when,at the urging of influential people in Armenia, I decided to heavilyinvest in the growing construction sector of the day. Years later, I found myself facing the top tribunal in Armenia, comprised of cheats and criminals. Through a series of deceptionsand frauds, they had wiped me clean. My investments, like those of many other diaspora Armenians, wereseized and pocketed in a case involving the entire state system. However, contrary to other diaspora Armenians, not only did I decideto fight back and bring the guilty to justice, but I still believeand dream about increasing my investments in Armenia. Thus, I urge my Syrian-Armenian businessmen to proceed with the utmostcaution before dealing with any officials, their relatives or anyso-called sponsoring services. Remember that undertaking large projects in Armenia demands courageand dedication. Be aware that these traits alone will not guaranteesuccess and might often lead to bankruptcy and asset confiscation. But all this should not serve as a reason for us to stop dreaming aboutour participation and investment in forging a prospering Armenia. I amconfident that I will have my rights and property restored, if not bythe Armenian judicial system, then by applying to various internationallegal tribunals. Such a victory would set a welcome precedent interms of defending the rights of diaspora Armenian investors. I am ready to make all the services of the Committee to Defend theRights of Diaspora Armenian Investors, an organization I founded inconjunction with other concerned individuals in the diaspora andArmenia, available to my Syrian-Armenian brothers and sisters whoface similar violations of their rights in the homeland. Given the conditions of corruption and impunity that reign in Armenia,it is imperative that we diaspora Armenians remain united and supportone another. We must never permit any authority in Armenia, their family or friends,to trample our dream to relocate to our homeland and, by investingour own sweat and sacrifice, to make it flourish. Edmond Khudyan U.S.A.
