Taking an Armenian Republican icon and remolding him to fit with the image of a Republican of today. Deukmejian was a MODERATE REPUBLICAN during his governorship, not a arch-conservative like those who control his party today and engineered the nomination of a conservative for California governor in 2002. Deuk may have been governor in the chronological198, but he is now an election tool for the California Republican Party, a la the literary "1984." Deukmejian got himself involved by endorsing Jones for Governor this year and expressing his dislike for Riordan.
