PRISONERS GET ACCESS TO INTERNET

The head of the Top Agency Tevos Nersisian announced at the regular session of the president affiliated Human Rights Commission that the prisoners in 4 prisons of Yerevan can from now on send and receive mails by electronic mail, as well as have audio-video conferences.

He said that the computer network has been established within the framework of the $20,000 worth program "Prisoners' Art in the Internet". The program won the contest announced by the Open Society Institute three months ago.

The issue of taking Emma and Anahit Mkhitarians to the hospital for mentally ill people by force was discussed as well. The commission studied the issue thoroughly and came to the conclusion that Mkhitarians' rights were violated by internal affairs officials. As it was diagnosed in the hospital, the Mkhitarians do not suffer from schizophrenia.

It was mentioned that the commission would take Mkhitarians home. It should be mentioned that the commission has received 90 complaints for the last two weeks.
