MosJan
Krikorian, Bentley, Sambar win board race Newcomer Krikorian will join incumbents on Glendale Unified's Board of Education. By ALECIA FOSTER GLENDALE -- With all 52 precincts reporting, a newcomer and two incumbents were elected to the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education Tuesday night. Small businessman Greg Krikorian, joined by incumbents Jeanne Bentley and Chuck Sambar, emerged victorious from a pool of 10 candidates. "It would appear we have a mandate from the people to continue doing what we're doing," Sambar said. The 10 candidates were vying for three seats held by Sambar, Bentley and Louise Foote. Foote, a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, was turned out of office, taking fifth in the race. She had served one term. Sambar will return for a second four-year term on the board, while Bentley will return for a third term. Bentley, who came in first with 8,149 votes, watched the results with family and friends. Bentley said she wasn't quite sure what to expect earlier in the day, but that all changed as results began rolling in. "I really want to serve again," she said. "I love being on the board." Newcomers Kathleen Burke-Kelly, a college administrator and Catherine Yesayan, a Realtor both had a strong showing. Krikorian, a small business owner who had received the support of three of Glendale's largest Armenian groups, celebrated his victory at the Verdugo Hills Country Club. He did not return phone calls Tuesday evening.
