DOLDRUM

Ho-hum.

We are dazed and confused, we are between two “currents”.

A concerned forumer expressed the following in another thread;

How do we get the forum to awake from it's deep slumber? Is this where the forum is headed? Has this happened before?

Yes we have had such periods before but none so long and quiet. The best word I can think of is “doldrum”**, a calm inactivity, usually happens around the equator, between two weather systems, no wind, no breeze, so much so that one time sail ships caught in the doldrums would at times perish. This past month has been one of the most “powerful” of doldrums, caught between two currents.

I have heard on numerous occasions that our ethnic identity is formed, defined and based on the Big G, my least favorite subject. I have often asked the not so rhetorical question, as to what will happen, what will we talk about once it is resolved in one way or other. We will note, I brought this up before that our “G-ologists” have been silent for quite sometime. We have not even talked about those other people who lobby against us, and those hired pseudo-historians, another of my least favorite subjects.

None of the above caused such a doldrum as the present one. Once again we were caught with our britches down. We were dealt such a hit over the head, we became dazed, totally confused ՇՇՄԱԾ, we lost consciousness, we went into a “coma”, which is often a prelude to death. At times people have miraculously come out of coma, yet even then many will forever suffer of the effects.

We may emerge from this coma, albeit with much obvious and hidden injuries, but things will never be the same. Hopefully, when we emerge of this trauma we will learn to mind our own business instead of blaming those and other people for our setbacks, talk about ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses, about our “unity” and the lack thereof, stop this “ undeclared .war” between te Diaspora and Homeland, between “eastern and western” Armenians etc.

WHY DO ARMENIAN NEWSCASTERS AND COMMENTATORS ON ARMENIAN TV SPEAK AS IF THEY ARE BEING CHASED BY A HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE?

Don’t get me wrong, as a rule I can understand perfectly well, be it stanbol eremenije or Yerevan Hayeren.

Is this a contest of who can speak faster? Is she speaking Armenian or reading from cue cards written in Cyrillic? Where do our commentators learn how to speak? In ankara or Moscow?

Why do they try to speak so fast? Who is chasing them? mehmet on his eshek ot Ivan on his avanak? When did Armenian Time Հայկական Ժամանակ become so precious in Yerevan? What is the going rate? Two lumas a minute?

How do we choose our broadcasters?

One who can speak the fastest and the most unintelligible

Compare that to the likes of American broadcasters, who I am sure can speak faster than a speeding bullet, and recite “she sells sea shells on the sea shore” faster than any of us but when they go on camera they speak like this. Listen how he speaks on the air, not like he speaks in his kitchen;

Also, see above where we spoke about “Artsakh” and “karakaka”, and our cuccinal (kitchen) engineers use of furkish words for our ingredients, which so far has not borne “fruit” once again.

We should re-wear or “campaign buttons” and once again assail those who may not know what is furkish and what Armenian. If they don’t know the Armenian words for those ingredients, the least they can do is use the English/Latin words for them.

Movses, you may not like this, what I have in mind is the word “duduk”/ whistle. The Armenian word for it is “soulich”. Yes, we know it is an onomatopoeic/bnadzayn, based on sound word, but when did we learn its furkish name? When Jivan plays in stanbol the natives know exactly what that word is, do those in Yerevan know?

Can we make it more convoluted and complicated, like “enable HTML” etc.?

Dear Mos, PLEASE!

When you write Armenian write in Armenian, that is if you can with this all screwed up system. I can read Armenian and Latin but when we write Armenian with Latin or Russiam spelling I get crosseyed and get a headache.

Thank you Mos for your response. I am gratified to know that some people read my carping and prating.

I am sure you remember when Ara B had all but hijacked spamming the subject topic of CULTURE to spread his nonsense, until I began a relentless campaign to either stop him or, in the least to move him over, away from that topic when he was intimidating many of our better writers. Eventually my campaign bore fruit when our wise mods and ads decided to create a whole separate personal corner for him. And now, after years of non-response to his spams and farts he has decided to close shop here and move over.

How about our wise mods and ads do the same to our latter day spammer (I borrowed that word from Yervant)**, and create a whole corner for him, where he can spam to his hearts content.
