Yervant1
It is a joke, no it's not! Yes it is!!!!!!!!! AZERBAIJAN SERIOUS ABOUT AIR SPACE DEFENSE http://vestnikkavkaza.net/news/politics/36466.html30 January 2013 - 7:00pm The recent statements concerning Azerbaijani air space are not jokes, the country's defense ministry underlines. That is the body's officialresponse to the CSTO chief's statement. Nikolay Bordyuzha, the secretary general of the Collective SecurityTreaty Organization, said yesterday the statement saying thatAzerbaijan will down planes flying over Karabakh without its officialpermission was probably a joke or was misinterpreted. Azerbaijan is serious about defending its air space, the defenseministry's spokesman Eldar Sabiroglu says. "It is not a joke. We will take all the necessary measures in caseof unauthorized flights over our territory," he said.
Arpa
Amish Beard?Do Amish women grow beards? Don't tell us where!http://news.yahoo.com/ohio-amish-beard-cutting-ringleader-gets-15-years-183805098.htmlCLEVELAND (AP) — The ringleader in hair- and beard-cutting attacks on fellow Amish in Ohio was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison and 15 family members received sentences of one year to seven years."The victims were terrorized and traumatized," U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster said in sentencing leader Sam Mullet Sr., 67, who sat without emotion during the sentencing. The judge said the defendants had violated the constitutional rights protecting religious practice that had benefited them as Amish — such as an exemption from jury service and allowing Amish children to leave school at age 14."Each of you has received the benefits of that First Amendment," Polster said. The judge said the defendants have two weeks to file an appeal of their sentence or conviction. Defense attorneys have indicated such appeals are likely. Before his sentencing, Mullet told the judge that he had been blamed for running a cult and was ready to take the punishment. Mullet, his ankles in chains and a white beard down to mid-chest, said if his community is seen as a cult, "Then I'm going to take the punishment for everybody."With relatives of victims and his family sitting on opposite sides of the public gallery, Mullet said he has lived his life trying to help others."That's been my goal all my life," Mullet said to a hushed courtroom, with his fellow defendants and their attorneys sitting at four defense tables and filling the jury box."I'm not going to be here much longer," said Mullet, who didn't elaborate on any health issues.Mullet and his family deny his community is a cult. The government asked for a life sentence for Mullet. The defense asked for two years or less. The 10 men and six women were convicted last year in five attacks in Amish communities in 2011. The government said the attacks were retaliation against Amish who had defied or denounced Mullet's authoritarian styleAmish believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards once they marry. Cutting it would be offensive to Amish.Other defendants, some in tears, also offered to take the brunt of the blame and punishment on behalf of Mullet or spouses. Addressing the judge one-by-one, the defendants said there would be no more beard-cutting attacks.Freeman Burkholder, 32, husband of a Mullet niece and father of eight children, apologized to the judge."I won't do it again," he said.Anna Miller, 33, married to a Mullet nephew and mother of six, also apologized, turning to relatives of victims as she said, "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." Like most of the women, she was sentenced to one year.A federal prosecutor, Bridget Brennan, urged the judge to punish Mullet adequately."He is a danger to this community," she said. "He is capable of controlling 15 defendants."Brennan repeated key testimony against Mullet and said he has remained the leader of his eastern Ohio community despite being locked up since his arrest in late 2011.The defendants were charged with a hate crime because prosecutors believe religious differences brought about the attacks.Nine of 10 men who were convicted have been locked up awaiting sentencing. The six women, who all have children, have been free on bond.In a rare interview last week in Bergholz at the sprawling Mullet farm amid rolling hills in eastern Ohio, Mullet's unmarried 19-year-old grandson, Edward Mast, discussed the family's attitude. He said they are steadfast in the belief that the attacks didn't rise to the level of a hate crime."The beard, what it stands for me, what I know about it, once you're married, you just grow a beard. That's just the way the Amish is," Mast said.As for the victims, he added, "They got their beard back again, so what's the big deal about it?"Arlene Miller, whose husband, an Amish bishop, was among the victims, thinks Mullet deserves a tough sentence and the others should get less time if they get cult deprogramming counseling."It's a cult," said Miller, 48, of Carrollton. "Their minds were programmed in the wrong way by Sam Mullet, so we feel like these people are very deceived and they are actually victims of Sam Mullet."She said there were no winners in the ordeal."There's no happy ending to this," she said.====Amish beard;http://25.media.tumb...alacuo1_400.jpgAre these Amish?http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QUSvbxrADx4/SqSG7WySXpI/AAAAAAAAB9Q/kwF9glnvn68/s200/37024583waitingforthebrooklynferry.jpgOr is it this- Mutafian?http://www.armenews.com/IMG/arton73030-300x216.jpg Edited February 8, 2013 by Arpa
Arpa
Eshoo mis, Donkey meat. We had seen stories abour norse meat all the way from Spain to Sweden (Ikea meatballs). This one takes the Donkey Prize. http://news.yahoo.com/donkey-buffalo-found-south-african-meat-products-141401122.html CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - Donkey, water buffalo and other unconventional ingredients have been found in almost two thirds of hamburgers and sausages tested in South Africa, a study released on Tuesday showed. The tests by the University of Stellenbosch were planned before a scandal broke out in Europe over horsemeat labelled as beef that raised concerns worldwide over the risks to human health from a complex and nebulous meat supply chain."Our study confirms that the mislabeling of processed meats is commonplace in South Africa and not only violates food labeling regulations, but also poses economic, religious, ethical and health impacts," co-author Louw Hoffman of the university's Department of Animal Sciences, said in a statement.Soya, donkey, goat, water buffalo and plant material were found in up to 68 percent of the 139 minced meats, burger patties, delicatessen meats, sausages and dried meats tested by the university. The items were not listed as ingredients.Pork and chicken were the most common fillers found in products that were not supposed to contain them, according to the study that used DNA testing techniques and was published in the journal Food Control. No similar discoveries had been made over the past two years, when DNA testing became more widely used in South Africa.Stricter food labelling laws came into effect in the continent's largest economy in March last year, with mandatory information required on content, country of origin and allergens. But there is no mandatory government testing of food sold in South Africa."It is a wake-up call for the industry to abide with the new labelling regulations," Hoffman, a noted game meat researcher, told Reuters. He said extensive tests over two weeks of more than 100 samples had found no trace of horse meat. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/14/Donkey_from_Shrek.jpg/200px-Donkey_from_Shrek.jpg Edited February 26, 2013 by Arpa
Yervant1
Azerbaijani hysteria on Artsakh's participation in international tourism exhibition in Milan gave no resultshttp://armenpress.am/static/news/b/2013/03/710184.jpg12:07, 2 March, 2013 YEREVAN, MARCH 2, ARMENPRESS. An international tourism exhibition was held in Milan, Italy on February 14-17. This year the Nagorno Karabakh Republic participated apart from Armenia for the first time – exciting books, videos, wine, brandy and other stuff. The Nagorno Karabakh delegation consisted of 4 members headed by Sergey Shahverdyan – Head of the Historical Environment Protection and Tourism Department of the Government Sergey Shahverdyan."Pyunik" information center in Milan told "Armenpress" that the Azerbaijani pavilion was near to the pavilion of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. This time, too, the Azerbaijanis yielded to self-deception in order to "justify" their own loss being unable to ignore the fact that Nagorno Karabakh has its own pavilion and introduces itself to the world as an independent unit. Few hours after the exhibition opened one of the representatives of Azerbaijan approached the Nagorno Karabakh pavilion and arrogantly declared that Nagorno Karabakh having a separate pavilion is a violation of international legal norms. He demanded on leaving the pavilion and stopping distribution of leaflets about Artsakh. They also intruded the pavilion during the night and stole booklets and a big poster with inscription "Nagorno Karabakh".The Chief Security Official called Kochukyan and Shahverdyan to his office, where four Azerbaijanis were waiting for them. They introduced a number of absurd statements and when the Chief Security Official realizing the absurdity of the Azerbaijanis' claims and their behavior, said that they had chosen a wrong place for holding such discussions. Moreover, continuation of this kind of behavior may become a reason to deprive Azerbaijan of a chance to introduce a pavilion in the next exhibition.- See more at: http://armenpress.am/eng/news/710184/azerbaijani-hysteria-on-artsakhs-participation-in-international-tourism-exhibition-in-milan-gave-no.html#sthash.5CSlaXUz.dpuf

Yervant1
17:04 18/03/2013 » Society Azerbaijani customs detained oppositionists, accusing them of smoking Armenian cigarettes Several members of the Azerbaijani opposition party "Musavat" were detained while crossing the Georgian-Azerbaijani border, the Azeri information portal "Haqqin.az" reports referring to "Azadlig" newspaper. They stopped Akif Mamedli, the Chairman of organization of "Musavat" party in Balakan district, and party activists Ahmed Osman and Azizov Garzalieva, with no apparent reason and started asking questions, and later started to insult,” said the senior Customs Lieutenant Elchin Rahmanly. After that, according to the source, Musavat members were searched. Not finding anything they caviled at a pack of cigarettes “VIP” that were purchased in Georgia, which were allegedly made in Armenia. "Bickering and insults to Musavat members, accompanied by insulting words, continued up to the prosecution of Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP) members and Musavat members which as if cooperate with the Armenian side,” reports the portal. Ahmed Garzaliev said that recently the negative attitude of the population to the current government of Azerbaijan has increased; people prefer to be with the opposition. "For this reason, the district administration gave curtain directions to some structures to watch us and to blackmail us. Black PR is carried out against local activists openly. And for any unpleasant incidents that may occur, the district administration will carry the responsibility," said a member of the party.Source: Panorama.am
Yervant1
Stealing other people's culture is one of their human values!!!! AZERI PRESIDENT SETS OFF NATIONAL VALUES AGAINST UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES NEWS.AMMarch 20, 2013 | 22:40 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev publically claims there is anessential difference between universal human values and Azerbaijaninational values. During his speech at the Muslim Novruz Bayram festival, Aliyevstressed that Azerbaijani government is committed to the nationalvalues and not to European universal values, haqqin.az informs. "Of course, we share common human values and have respect for Europeanvalues. However, our national values, Azerbaijani values, are aboveall for us. Modern independent Azerbaijani state is built on a solidfoundation. Today Azerbaijan is developing rapidly and successfully inall directions," Aliyev said. What exactly is the essence of "national Azerbaijani values"? The president did not explain, however, if one draws conclusions basedon the actions of Azerbaijani authorities, it can be argued that amongthe "values" is a brutal assassination of a sleeping person. Yes, thatis true. The accused murderer of the Armenian officer GurgenMargaryan, Azerbaijani military officer, in accordance with Europeanand universal values, was sentenced in Hungary to life imprisonment, however, when he was returned home to continue his imprisonment inAzeri prison, according to the Azerbaijani national values, he becamea national hero. Furthermore, in addition to honoring murderers of sleeping people, another Azerbaijani value is annihilation of the Armenian nation andthe Armenian cultural heritage: recall the destruction of the Armeniancross-stones on present Azerbaijani territory of Julfa. Yervant1
AZERBAIJAN SILENCED AS IT QUESTIONS "ILLEGITIMATE" ELECTION IN NEIGHBOURING ARMENIA Sacramento Bee, CAMarch 21 2013 Azerbaijan was silenced at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Councilof Europe (PACE) on Wednesday after one of its delegates was heckledand then barred from speaking while addressing the committee on therecent election in neighbouring Armenia. Azerbaijani delegate, Elkhan Suleymanov, was speaking on the electionthat returned to power Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, a formermilitary commander linked to the massacre of civilians in the townof Khojaly, Azerbaijan, on 26th February of 1992. Azerbaijan has branded his re-election "illegitimate" given hisrole in the massacre and due to Armenia's continued occupation ofNagorno-Karabakh that has displaced one million Azerbaijanis. Despitenumerous resolutions by the UN, PACE, the Organisation for Securityand Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Parliament, Armeniacontinues to occupy 20 percent of its neighbour's territory. Just two minutes into his speech, Suleymanov was interrupted byArmenian delegates and was then stunned to see the Chairman of thePACE Monitoring Committee, Andres Herkel, effectively side with thehecklers by cutting short Suleymanov's speech. "I was angered and amazed," Suleymanov said afterwards, adding thathe was "only going to speak for three minutes on a day when otherdebates occupied more than three hours." More than the interruptions by the Armenian delegates, Azerbaijan isdisappointed with the actions of Herkel, which it says brings intoquestion his independence as Chairman. "It seems like Mr. Herkel is openly giving support to Armenia,"Suleymanov said. He added that he wants to clarify this incident "in the interest ofthe credibility of our organisation and the firm application of agood democratic practice" because his nation takes very seriouslyinstitutions such as PACE as a forum for working through issuesaffecting regional peace and stability. Azerbaijan believes the election of President Sargsyan in Armenia willdo nothing to promote the peace process. He was returned to power ina poll that involved one candidate embarking on a hunger strike toprotest campaign violations and another being shot and wounded in anattempted assassination. Yervant1
DIPLOMAT FROM AZERBAIJANI EMBASSY TO U. S. FAILED TO INTERRUPT REPORT OF ARMENIAN POLITICAL SCIENTIST 14:18, 22 March, 2013 YEREVAN, MARCH 22, ARMENPRESS. On March 20th, Vilen Khlgatyan,Vice-Chair of the Political Developments Research Center spoke atthe Institute of World Politics (IWP) in Washington, D.C. on the"Petro-politics of Azerbaijan". The event was attended by diplomats, political analysts and representatives of academic community. The Public Relations Department of the Political Developments ResearchCentre informed "Armenpress" that during the course of the discussionMr. Khlgatyan presented the oil and natural gas projects in Azerbaijan, the internal politics of the country, and its foreign policy. TheAzerbaijani economy is heavily dependent on the energy sector. "Allindicators show that the regime in Baku has made no serious efforts tochange and diversify the economy, which means that Azerbaijan is likelyto experience the effects of 'Dutch Disease' and a failing economyshould shale gas become more readily available on the global market". The Azerbaijani strategy of using its energy resources as a foreignpolicy tool started under Haydar Aliyev, when he realized thatinviting Western energy firms would serve the duel goals of keepingRussia at bay, and birthing an incentive for the West, chiefly theUS, and UK to take an interest in Azerbaijan. His son, the currentdictator of Azerbaijan, followed suit and added another layer to thepolicy of "caviar diplomacy" by pouring money into the State OilFund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ), and using those funds to carrying outan aggressive public diplomacy and information war campaign, mainlytargeted at Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora. Examples mentioned byMr. Khlgatyan included the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, the HaydarAliyev statue in Mexico City, and the alleged bribe paid to theHungarian government to extradite axe-murderer, Ramil Safarov. Mr. Khlgatyan also spoke about the authoritarian nature of Azerbaijanipolitics, and the de fact one party rule under the New AzerbaijanParty. Every election Azerbaijan has held in the last decade has beenwidely criticized as undemocratic, corrupt, and illegitimate. Thishas not stopped Ilham Aliyev from making further efforts to increasehis power, such as the 2009 referendum to abolish presidential termlimits. Moreover, allegations surfaced in recent years that Aliyev'sson owns mansions in the United Arab Emirates, and the younger ofhis two daughters owns millions in shares of the main mobile phoneoperator in Azerbaijan. Aliyev has established a kleptocracy whichconsistently ranks among the most corrupt states in the world accordingto Transparency International. Azerbaijan's foreign policy in regards to its neighbors was discussedas well, specifically its tense ties with Iran, hostility towardArmenia, and strategic relations with Turkey. The main aim ofAzerbaijan has been to isolate Armenia from all regional energyprojects, and use its energy to keep Russia at bay and attract Westernpolitical support and economic investment. During the Question and Answer sessions, following Mr. Khlgatyan'sremarks that under Aliyev's rule freedom of expression and thoughthave been curtailed. Fakhraddin Ismayilov, a diplomat from theAzerbaijani embassy, went on a tirade and criticized the Instituteof World Politics and forum moderator Dr. Marek Jan Chodakiewiczfor allowing an ethnic Armenian to speak on Azerbaijan. He furtheralleged that the presentation was lacking in facts and that becauseno Azerbaijani had been contacted to provide information, that thepresentation was biased. Yet, he offered no examples of how thepresentation was unfactual. The Azerbaijani embassy representative'sdiatribe against IWP for allowing an Armenian-American to speak onAzerbaijan highlight this fact better than anything Mr. Khlgatyancould have said. Ad hominem attacks against Mr. Khlgatyan would havecontinued had Dr. Chodakiewicz not put an end to the ranting of Mr. Ismayilov, which caused the Azerbaijani diplomat to sit sourly inhis chair for the remainder of the Question and Answer session. Yervant1
Ilham Aliyev couldn't have written any better! AZERBAIJAN'S EXAMPLE OF HOW TO BREED SUCCESS The Washington TimesMarch 19, 2013 Tuesday U.S. must signal Russia and Iran to keep hands' off By S. Rob Sobhani SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES As the world focuses on the passing of Hugo Chavez and the impact ofhis socialist policies on oil-rich Venezuela, halfway around the globea different kind of leader has been quietly transforming his countryinto a prosperous and reliable partner of the West. Since assuming thepresidency in 2003, Ilham Aliyev, the 52-year old Azerbaijani headof state, has used his country's vast energy resources to make thetransition from a centrally planned economy to a free and prosperousone. While socialism has ruined Venezuela's enormous potential, Mr. Aliyev's adoption of market capitalism has transformed his countryinto the Kuwait of the former Soviet Union with an average annual grossdomestic product growth rate of 24 percent over the past 10 years. Chavez's governing style was to put demagoguery before country. In Mr. Aliyev, Azerbaijanis have a leader who has put his country beforeideology. For example, unlike Chavez, who drove away American energycompanies, Mr. Aliyev has welcomed cooperation with the likes ofExxon and Chevron. The results are phenomenal: Azerbaijan's 1 millionbarrels per day of oil is exported via pipeline to consumers aroundthe world without any glitch, and its oil fund now stands at morethan $35 billion. Unlike Chavez, Russia's Vladimir Putin and Iran'sAyatollah Ali Khamenei, Mr. Aliyev does not use his country's oil asa weapon. Instead, he shares Washington's vision of an uninterruptedflow of oil and gas from the landlocked Caspian Sea to internationalmarkets. Unlike Chavez, who spent his time with thugs and anti-Semites suchas Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mr. Aliyev has steered thisShia Muslim nation of 8 million clear of religious fundamentalism. When one meets with this forward-looking leader, the first topic ofconversation is the importance of religious tolerance. Mr. Aliyevand a majority of Azerbaijanis pride themselves on having created asociety whose foundation rests on cultural and religious coexistence. While operatives of the Iranian regime kill Israeli tourists aroundthe world, Mr. Aliyev takes pride in inaugurating synagogues andchurches in downtown Baku. On foreign policy, while Chavez became the ringleader of theanti-American club, Mr. Aliyev has promoted friendly ties with theUnited States. Immediately after the attacks on our country on Sept. 11, 2001, Azerbaijan extended its hand of cooperation in the waragainst terrorism. Today, troops from Azerbaijan serve in Afghanistancarrying out dangerous missions alongside American soldiers. In fact, according to Sen. John McCain, Azerbaijan's special forces haveperformed critical operations with courage and skill. Mr. Aliyev also understands that we live in the 21st century and isinvesting his country's wealth in the future. The recent launch ofAzerspace I is a clear example of his forward-thinking approach. Thesatellite was manufactured by Virginia-based Orbital Sciences Corp.,supporting 1,500 American jobs. He understands that growing thenascent satellite industry will boost his country's intellectualcapacity and knowledge stream through constant research and education. It is not surprising that 2013 was declared the year of information andcommunications technologies by the president. The launch of Azerspacemarks another milestone in the partnership between Washington and Baku. Although Azerbaijan is making steady progress in its transition toa free-market economy and an elevated standard of living for itscitizens, challenges remain. The legacy of human rights violationsand corruption inherited from Soviet times has presented some bumps onthe road to smoother bilateral relations between the United States andAzerbaijan. Nonetheless, under the leadership of Mr. Aliyev, Azerbaijanis making the arduous transition to a democracy. Washington must workwith Baku in order to address these issues, but also remember thatAmerica's transition to a free and fair country took many years. In recognition of Azerbaijan's role as a reliable and responsible allyin the broader Middle East and its strategic location (situated betweena belligerent Russia and theocratic Iran), Washington should take twoimmediate steps to further broaden and strengthen this relationship:First, the United States must make a more robust effort at theresolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan andArmenia. President Obama's second term affords no domestic politicalland mines. Since the new secretary of state, John F. Kerry, is knownto be a friend of Armenia and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is a goodfriend of Azerbaijan, it is in U.S. national security interest to endthis "frozen" conflict. Second, Mr. Obama should invite Mr. Aliyevto the White House to show America's appreciation to a friend andally. Beyond showing our appreciation, we must send a signal to Moscowand Tehran that we will not tolerate any adventurism or pushing aroundof smaller countries in the region. As the world contemplates the effects of Chavez's rule of Venezuela, itis a useful moment to consider how a very different kind of leadershipin a strategically important, energy-rich country has led not toconfrontation, but to partnership. Azerbaijan still has some workto do in building its democratic institutions, but in the meantime,it has been laying the foundations of economic prosperity for itspeople. For an example of how Venezuela could have turned out better, one need only look at Azerbaijan. S. Rob Sobhani is CEO of Caspian Group Holdings. Yervant1
Is this guy a scientist or a moron ?19:00 28/03/2013 » Society Azerbaijani scientists confessed that they wanted to cause artificial earthquake in Metsamor NPP Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences Adil Garibov has proposed to check Metsamor NPP in Armenia for resistance in extreme conditions. To do this, the Azerbaijani scientist suggests to cause an artificial earthquake. As the site “Publika.az” reports, Garibov stated that Metsamor NPP is still working normally and has not been tested for resistance at 9 magnitude earthquake. "If an earthquake or other extreme situation occurs there, how will the reactor act? It needs to be checked out in extreme conditions, but no one does it. It is possible to cause such an artificial earthquake, let's check whether Metsamor NPP will withstand or not. Naturally, the reactor will not stand it. We believe in the tests of international structures and do not put them into question. But let at least one international expert answer, whether the reactor will resist the earthquake of 9 balls and whether Armenia will be able to supply its operation? This is our demand," said the director of the ANAS Institute of Radiation Issues. He also expressed his outrage for the fact that the neighboring countries do not support the initiative of Azerbaijan. Earlier, the director of the Azerbaijan Center for Political Innovations and Technologies Mubariz Ahmedoglu stated that the bombing of Metsamor NPP by Azerbaijan is rather real act during the Karabakh war, and even more efficient for the "liberation" of territories. "As soon as the rocket will fall at the plant or storage of nuclear waste, the whole Armenian army would start to save the Armenian civilians and will leave the occupied territory," the analyst said.Source: Panorama.am
Yervant1
AZERBAIJAN GENERATES "BRILLIANT IDEAS": LET'S MAKE AN EARTHQUAKE NEWS.AMMarch 28, 2013 | 13:36 Azerbaijani side made a "brilliant" offer to test operation ofArmenia-based nuclear power plant not in normal but in extremeconditions, that is by making an earthquake. This "bright" idea was voiced by Director of the Institute ofradiation problems of the Azerbaijani National Academy of SciencesAdil Garibov. In an interview with APA agency he said "9-magnitudeearthquake resistance of the Metsamor NPP has not been verified." "Metsamor NPP is located in 9 magnitude earthquake zone. What will bethe results for the reactor in powerful earthquakes and extreme cases? Therefore the reactor should be tested in extreme conditions. We trustthe tests carried out by foreign specialists at Metsamor NPP and cannot doubt it. Let any foreign specialist answer 'Will this reactor beable to sustain or Armenia to ensure its sustainability, if 9-magnitudeearthquake occurs?' These are our demands," APA quotes Garibov. The scientist, however, avoids speaking about consequences of possibleattack of Azerbaijan, since his country is permanently voicing threatsto unleash war. Representatives of the Armenian NPP do not take such assertionsseriously. "IAEA experts visited Metsamor NPP last fall. They gave positiveassessments. We have no problems. NPP's safety is ensured fully,"they said. Azerbaijan is constantly raising the issue of Armenian nuclearpower plan in attempt to exert pressure on the Armenian side andgain political and economic dividends for the settlement of Karabakhconflict in their interests. Yervant1
TURKISH WRITER: ISRAEL'S APOLOGY PREPARED GROUNDS FOR TURKEY TO APOLOGIZE TO ARMENIA 18:25 02/04/2013 " IN THE WORLD Turkish writer Ismet Ozel wrote on article on Israel's recent apologyto Turkey over the raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla that killedeight Turks and a Turkish- American in 2010, Ermenihaber.am newswebsite reported. Ozel believes that Israel's apology can preparegrounds for Turkey to apologize to Armenia. Israel's apology was part of a CIA operation and the plan for 2015,Ozel says. Israel would never apologize to an authoritative country. With this move, it paves the way for Turkey to apologize to Armeniain 2015. "The U.S. reminds Israel of the formula "give one, take five." Itwill be in the interests of both Tel Aviv and Athens if Turkey payscompensation to Armenia. One should just be an AKP member [Turkey'sruling Justice and Development Party] to fail to understand it,"Ozel says. Armenak
From a recent subtly anti-Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh conference at Johns Hopkins: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2OIlcvqSHCaalVReHVPOFlQOGM/edit?pli=1 Some of their wonderful suggestions include Armenia "renouncing claims on Turkey" and for Azerbaijanis abroad to "continue to lobby and raise awareness about crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis to create a more balanced public opinion in relation to the NK conflict." Oh, I also liked the part about peacekeepers being from neutral countries like Finland and the Czech Republic.
Yervant1
18:35 19/04/2013 » Society Aznews.az: Azerbaijani tales promoting zoophilia, incest and homosexuality In January 2004, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on mass publications of literary works in Azerbaijani language using the new Latin alphabet. In accordance with the decree signed in 2005, the publishing house "East-West" reissued five-volume book called "Azerbaijani Tales" that was published by the Academy of Sciences in 1963. As the aznews.az reports, the fairy tales, that were published in the final - the fifth - volume of the collection carry out propaganda of immorality of the Azerbaijani people. Thus, in the fairy tale, "Shah the fire-worshiper" tells about a ruler, who tried to possess his daughter-in-law and his blood daughter. Shah wanted to kill his son to take possession of the latter’s wife, but he did not succeed, and he decided to marry his daughter. "Why should I give you to someone else? I would better keep you for myself," says the hero of the Azerbaijani tale to his daughter. Another tale, entitled "Unwanted groom" tells about zoophilia and incest: it is about the sexual intercourse between two brothers, and their father’s with cows. Besides that it becomes clear from the fairy tale that all the men of the family enter into a sexual relationship with their mother. Scenes of perversions and immorality can be found in many fairy tales published in this book. They are written in an open and obscene form. Besides that there is an Armenian carpet on the cover of the book, with Christian symbolisms and ornaments which, however is presented as Azerbaijani. MosJan
In Azerbaijan, Cooking up a Stew with Political Ramifications The increasingly indispensable Roads & Kingdoms blog has a wonderful new piece that takes a look at the Azeri tradition of cooking up khash, a hearty though labor-intensive stew made using a sheep's head, hooves and stomach that have gone through various processes in order to render the final product. What I found particularly interesting about the piece, written by Mark Hay, was its suggestion that for Azeris, cooking khash was as much a political act as a culinary one. From the article:Staking out a claim on khash, naming it as something uniquely Azerbaijani, is a far weightier thing to do in the Caucasus than it is for Florida or Massachusetts to claim key lime or Boston cream pies, respectively, as their own though. Naming a food here is a political act, filled with fire and vigorm, as the contest over foods has been imbued with the long-simmering tensions of regional border disputes.During the Soviet era, the Caucasus was a site of mass expulsions of ethinc groups. Afterwards, it was wracked by violence over ethnic-historical land claims and slippery borders. The last decade has been, in contrast, calm. Yet the accusations still fly, especially between Azerbaijan and neighboring Armenia (who technically remain at war): the other side is a destroyer of culture, usurper of history and identity. While total war stays on the table, both nations now assert their claims through an all-pervading cultural war. This includes Armenia’s boycott of the Eurovision song contest in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Or the implicit Azerbaijani threats to shoot down commercial planes that try to land at airports in Nagorno-Karabakh. Or the protests at the start of the year against former Azerbaijani politician and current novelist Ekrem Eylisli for sympathizing with Armenian claims in his novella “Stone Dreams.” But spend any time eating khash in Mardakan and it will become clear: in Azerbaijan today, food is the real front line.Of course, as chronicled on this blog, khash is not the only dish that has led to food fights in the Caucasus, with the origins of keshkek, dolma and wine all being contested regionally. We can now, it seems, add khash to the list of dishes who pack as much political power as flavor
