nairi
I think you are all forgetting that Eurovision is a pop culture event, it's all about who has the beat to get the viewers rolling. I don't think that's how it originally started. The original idea was for Eurovision to be a platform for European folk inspired music, with each country singing in its own language and spicing its music up with traditional tunes. Now it's just a mishmash of cheap pop, laughable acts, and jingoistic voters.
elle
We heard about all the Azeri propoganda, but this one tops them all! Now they are claiming that Armenians stole the song from them! garmag
The song Azerbaijan will be presenting at the Eurovision http://youtube.com/watch?v=cTNREz9CVs4 In a flea market the one that screems most attracts more interest. It does not mean that the goods they're selling has any worth or merit. Does any one remember the "pet-rock" craze? I still chuckle at the people who baught these pebbles by paying hard earned cash!!! AZ entry has been well packaged in raz-a ma-taz, screeming incomprehencible lyrics, amplification to blow your ears and showmanship! Just what the scene needs!---- They have been advised by good marketeers! However this Eurovision is a bazaar where the lofty ideas of yore were... pre EU formation... ;the aquainting of various nations to each other via ethnic/song contests, hoping this will trigger amity amogst the people...! It has turned into an anglo/pop/rock/...babble/confrontational venue, arousing masses to back their own representative at all costs! The past majority of winner's use of english has been a language of preference. Armenia is following this trend if she wants to stand a chance of winning. Eurovision is not La Scala or the Met! You cannot put diamonds in front of chikens expecting eggs in return, they prefer seeds! Edited March 14, 2008 by garmag
Nané
I agree. Qele Qele was the better choice. Good luck to Sirusho !!! I so hope to see Anush & Inga Arshakianner in Eurovision 2009. I take that back. Should have listened to the whole song before expressing an opinion. In my opinion, a song being presented at Eurovision by an Armenian artist should be an ethnic song mixed with european beats - NOT MUGHAM. Eurocentric
NOT MUGHAM. How popular would you say mugham (traditonal Azeri Turkish folk music) is in Armenia? What is it exactly ? Is that when the rabiz do vocal modulation?
Ashot
Eurocentric jan, I would say let's invite Arpa in here, he will give the best definition to the questions... Dear Arpa jan, we would like to know the questions Eurocenric just asked and also where did the surrounding nations of Armenia adopted their music?
Aratta-Kingdom
Mugam has nothing to do with the turks or their young azeri brothers. When speaking about the muslims, we must first remeber the arabs & the iranians.
Aratta-Kingdom
Eurovision Betting Odds: Sirusho, Armenia http://www.hecklerspray.com/eurovision-bet...a/200813187.php Here it comes - another daily instalment of Eurovision betting odds. Exciting, huh? Oh, you big kidder, it is. Eurovision fever is already sweeping the continent, you'll be pleased to know. The Norwegian entry is number two in the Norwegian national charts, the Belgian entry is seventh there and this week's entire top 15 in Sweden are all entries in the Eurovision qualifying round. Let's pray that never happens here - anything that heps to give John Barrowman credibility as a judge is all wrong in our books. Here are the Eurovision betting odds for Armenia, with help from Paddy Power… Armenia - (pop. 2,976,372; a landlocked Eurasian country in the Caucasus region): Sirusho, Qele Qele In Armenian 'Qele Qele' means 'Let's go', as in 'let's go to the beach' or 'let's go and drown animals for sport'. However, quite what Sirusho wants us to let's go and do is never made explicit, partly because she spends quite a lot of the song wailing "From my Armenian soil I came to bring the wind of the mountains" like a vaguely apocalyptic gypsy woman. But don't let the opening of Qele Qele fool you, because this song is one of the favourites to win Eurovision this year. We're not sure why - it could be because it sounds a bit like Shakira, or because it sounds like Sirusho is singing "ooh Kelly ooh Kelly" and a lot of people called Kelly will vote for it because they're thick. But even if Sirusho doesn't win Eurovision for Armenia, at least the song is perfectly set up to soundtrack the sort of tourism commercials for North African countries that they show on news channels in continental hotels. Also, this is the third of our Eurovision betting odds profiles, and the third pretty female performer. A pattern forming? Current Eurovision betting odds - 6/1 Tomorrow: Eurovision betting odds for Azerbaijan! But if that's too long to wait - or you feel like making more money than you know what to do with - head right over to the Paddy Power Eurovision betting odds page to see the latest, and best, betting odds. Aratta-Kingdom
http://www.sirusho.am/ Sirusho, the Armenian entrant of Eurovision Song Contest 2008, has updated her website with news and new material regarding her entry, Qele, qele. Sirusho appeared on the weekly "ESC Diary" on Armtv and confessed she felt guilty for her website not being updated for such a long time. So now, the brand new site with new photographic material and fresh news is online, in collaboration with Fluger. The Qele, qele CD promo pack is expected to be released soon too.As reported by Armtv the Cd package will include the Cd with all versions of Qele, qele, a DVD with the official video clip, T-shirts with Sirusho's photo and flags. http://www.esctoday.com/news/read/11094
Aratta-Kingdom
http://ditord.wordpress.com/2008/04/12/pla...-at-eurovision/ Plans to boycott Sirusho at Eurovision The Armeinan Observer Boycott blog - set up a couple of weeks ago to promote the concert of civil-boycott of various things - boycottable, in sign of protes of the 2008 Presidential election results and the reaction of authorities that followed opposition protests, has now come up with a discussion, whther it is acceptable to boycott the Eurovision song contest and Armenian representative - Sirusho. While I see some logic in that - I just watched the "Qele, qele" song - Armenia Eurovision entry, and felt, that it would be unuust towards the artist - Sirusho, wh is basically still just a kid, expecially as the song sounds like a winnign one to me. Morever, considering the fact, that this year is Azerbaijan's first entry into the Eurovison contest, I have that little twitch of pride inside me, telling we have to do everything to make sure the Armenian artist wins. On the other hand, it is not just about Sirusho - it is the Armenian Public TV - that is taking part in the contest - and if this boycott could serve to teach a lesson of public mistrust towards the Public TV - for all the disgraceful media coverage of the election process over the past several months, maybe it is justified more? I really don't know. What do you think?
