OSCE SPONSORS TWO-DAY CONFERENCE ON REGIONAL PEACE

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS:

The OSCE Armenia office along with the Armenian parliament foreign relations committee convened a round table today in Yerevan devoted to the OSCE 25th anniversary.

The participants of round table were greeted by parliament speaker Armen Khachatrian who stressed the role of the OSCE in building the European security and promoting solutions of human rights, democracy and security issues in Europe.

Armenia's deputy foreign minister Tatul Manasarian said the OSCE was the only structure with full representation of Armenia. He said Armenia is appreciating highly the OSCE Minsk group efforts to help find a mutually acceptable peace formula for the conflicting sides in Karabagh conflict.

The chairman of foreign relations committee Hovhaness Hovanisian read out the message of the OSCE acting chairwoman, Austria's foreign minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner who called on Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents to continue their direct dialogue for seeking long-lasting peace formula.

The OSCE is one of the sponsors of a two-day conference on regional peace and stability that will get underway in Yerevan on September 27. It is expected that NATO secretary-general George Robertson will address its participants on the second day of his official visit to Armenia.

The conference is organized by the Armenian Center for National and International Studies, a Yerevan-based think tank headed by Raffi Hovanisian, Armenia's first post-Soviet foreign minister.
