Guest Posted September 22, 2000 Report Share Posted September 22, 2000 US-ARMENIAN SINGER DONATES $25,000 TO ARMENIAN ORPHANS YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS:A US-Armenian singer Narine Shahbazian has arrived in Armenia to donate $25,000 raised from a charitable concert performed by her in Los Angeles last May to Armenian orphans. Speaking at a news conference today Ms. Shahbazian said she had visited several orphanages in Armenia to see what the children needed most of all. She said she was shocked by what she had seen in orphanages in Gyumri, Nubarashen. In her words, they all lack the elementary facilities. She blamed the authorities for ignoring their needs adding that the orphanages continue to exist due to the irregular support of Diaspora organizations and benefactors. She said a film shooting team, accompanying her, has recorded the deplorable situation they witnessed in the orphanages, adding she would prepare a special TV-program on Armenian orphanages back in the USA. The singer said she was preparing to perform a charitable concert next year in Yerevan promising to donate part of the would be gained profits to the Church and the other part to parentless children. Ms. Shahbazian had performed with Armenian Variety Symphonic Orchestra before moving to the USA in 1984. She performed in London, Paris, Buenos Aires and Brazil.
