Guest
I am starting a sweet, non-fighting topic! I want to talk about your names, guys.do you know where they come from?what do they mean???Are there any people in our history with the same name???Here we go...My name is Nvard Khachatrian.NVARD is a very old pagan Armenian name.It started during the first Urartu days.i don't know why there is an "N". But I know what the "VARD" part means Someone told me that my name is not related to the "roses". He said that translated from GRABAR my name means "DEVOTED"(I like that!).The most famous Nvard in history was the Urartu queen, the wife of Ara Geghecik. My last name is very common in Armenia. it is very Christian. It comes from the name KHACHATUR, wich means the "crossgiver".your turn.... Guest
I don't know exact definition of Ararat, but once I argued with one Turkish scholar about Turkish naming of Ararat and Arax (Agri Dagi and Aras), he said "However Armenian version of this two are also different than "original" (he meant Masis and Yeraskh). Our fight continues... Guest
Well, I haven't wanted to venture here as my name really is Steven, my last name I would rather not reveal( I have made some enemies on this forum!), lets just say that it is really Anglo Saxon. However, as I was baptized in the Armenian Church(at the late age of nine, by my choice) I have a baptized name of Stepan. In Greek Steven means "Crown." As for my previous user name "Farsisteve", let me explain, its a family joke. My uncle used to always call me that when I was a kid(he still does sometimes) because I would always play with the Persian kids in the neighborhood, and yet fight with the Armenian boys! Also there is irony in it because I look so un-farsi! I still use Farsisteve on the Cyberiran Forum. As for my new user name,Half Breed, it fits. I have been called this in a derogatory way by Armen(or Arman? He doesn't come around anymore), and by someone called Hayastani on Cyberiran (I suspect Arman and Hayastani are the same). Well, like the Blacks who call themselves n**gers, I have taken this insult and appropriated it for myself, it is who I am! I will never be full Armenian, I can wish, pray, pretend, etc. but it ain't gonna happen. Neither am I ever going to be full Irish-Chocktaw American. I embrace being a Half Breed, and have come to be proud of it, because I have the richness of two (even three counting Persian) cultures. This is something that you "Full Armos" can't have, and it doesn't just mean food, music and language, it is having two identities. Its hard sometimes, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Guest
This is really great! To tell you the truth, it's that Gayane and Nvard are some of my favorite Armenian female names.I prefer not to reveal myself yet, but I will try to soon. And I would like to add some explanations about Gayane's name. It comes from the "Karasoun Gouyser". Their leader was indeed named Gayane. And all of these "Karasoun Gouyser" were killed or sacrificed by Drtad III, the Armenian king who first adopted Christianity as the official religion of Armenia. These "Karasoun Gouyser" were killed because they refused to change their religion and deny Christianity. They were very brave and heroic heroes of Christianity and Armenia. Guest
Actually Trdat was not only trying to force them to change their religion, but also to get Gayane in his bed. Three of those 40 were killed in Echmiadzin: Gayane, Hrypsime and Shoghakat. One of them was killed in Georgia, her name was Nino. They have St.Nino church there, same as we have St.Gayane, St.Hripsime and St. Shoghakat in Echmiadzin.
