I know this is not a laughing matter but I can't help thinking that the caption of this video should read - "The dangers of standing in front of a 7-11 smoking cigarettes and eating sunflower seeds"

Police: Driver tried to run over men in 7-Eleven parking lot

Suspect allegedly hit one of them after they wouldn't buy a TV from him.

A 55-year-old man was charged with several counts Tuesday after he allegedly twice tried to run over three men with his Ford Thunderbird outside a 7-Eleven store in Glendale.

Lloyd Morris, of Glendale, who allegedly hit one of the men with his car, faces three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of resisting an officer and one count of hit-and-run in connection with the July 20 incident, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court complaint.

The alleged victims told officers that Morris approached them just before midnight outside a 7-Eleven in the 1100 block of East Broadway, opened the Ford's trunk and tried to sell them an old TV, apparently to get money to buy beer.

Police released two surveillance videos on Tuesday showing a white Ford Thunderbird backing out of a parking spot and driving directly toward the men — who were described as Glendale residents in their early 20s — and their Mercedes-Benz. The men were smoking next to their car when the attack occurred.

In the video footage, the Thunderbird is seen nearly mowing the men down the first time as they jump out of the way, and then a second time in reverse as the men try to run away.

The car then strikes one of the men — sending him flying into the air — and the back of the Mercedes before driving off.

The men, including the one who was struck, scramble into the Mercedes and take off in pursuit.

Police used Morris' license plate number to track down his address in the 2900 block of Edmonton Drive, where an officer spotted him standing next to the damaged Thunderbird in the middle of the street, according to police reports.

Before the officer could say anything, Morris yelled and allegedly told the officer he would shoot him.

He refused to comply with several orders to get on the ground, and urged the officer twice to shoot him, according to police.

Police used a Taser to subdue and arrest Morris, but even then, he allegedly tried to spit on and bite officers.
