CD RELEASE - YOUNG LONDON ARMENIANS RELEASE NEW CONTEMPORARY ARMENIAN MUSIC

ALBUM, HOKIS VOLUME MEG.

www.hokis.co.uk

RBO, an independent London-based youth group has collaborated with Dukes

Avenue Records to bring you the world’s first-ever contemporary youth

compilation Armenian CD; Hokis Volume Meg. An album for young Armenians by

young Armenians.

Hokis Volume Meg was recorded at Airtank Studios in London and features

artists from Beirut and Boston. Singers, musicians and rappers from

different musical backgrounds combine their talents with one common theme –

being Armenian. “If you want Armenian kids to listen to Armenian music,

then Armenian music needs to be updated. It’s not plain sailing for any of

us so this is a perfect platform from which to express ourselves and it’s

about time we did”, adds Armen Cholakian, Executive Producer of Dukes Avenue

Records.

Every song’s lyrics are expressed in a powerful, honest and realistic tone,

some serious, some humorous. What will surprise a lot of people is how

Armenian vocals have been blended with many of todays musical styles.

Comprising 11 very different tracks and 10 comical interludes, Hokis Volume

Meg promises to capture the imagination of Diasporan Armenians worldwide.

Topics covered range from Hye Babas, Anoushig Aghchigs, Barsigs versus Gor

Gors, to marriage and Genocide - hitting on the issues which are close to

our hearts.

Dukes Avenue Records Executive Producer, Harout Bozadjian, states “we really

feel that we have created something special. The next step for us is to

tour, we need to take the music to the people, especially the younger

generation.

This album will inject people with pride”.

On top of the 22 track CD, there is also a glitzy music video for the song

Inché Butjarad, with London landmarks acting as a fitting backdrop. A

highly informative website has also been assembled providing artist

profiles, track samples and behind the scenes footage. Hokis Volume Meg was

officially released on August 1st and can be purchased online at www.hokis.co.uk.

G@ nerek yete kich m@ zayratsadz em,

But I heard some of the clips, and I must say that i did not like one bit of it. First of all, why are there turkish expressions like "tchojoukh" or "@ses ne". I find that the songs contain very bad and dirty material and I don't think it's good music or even Armenian music. Contrary to what the "band" says, it's not appropriate for young Armenians: is it ok to tell someone that your girl is dirty, or this and that?

I sampled all the tunes on-line before I bought it. The one that really grabbed me was "Dariner Antsni". I haven't listened to it enough to give the full monty on it.

Being Armenian AND a music hound, I felt I should buy it just to support what you guys are trying to do. So much of the Armenian music they show on TV in Glendale is cookie-cutter crap, that I think it's important to support anyone try to expand Armenian music.

If I can get my ass together on my oud playing mixed with my Roland 808 e-Mix sampler, maybe I can make it onto Hokis Volume Ksan!

Keep it up, brother. Some of us old, fourth generation American f*cks still care.

35 and counting,

Mike (Pilafhead)
