Rock in Armenian: Is there any?

I am not talking about a group like System of a Down, which are Armenians, but sing in English. Is there any Armenian Rock(Alternative) bands that sing in Armenian? If there are, I sure don't see their albums in Armenian music stores. Berj, I am sure you can enlighten me on this.

Dear farsi,

Of course there are rock/alternative Armenian albums. Try "Arax - Made in Armenia". It's an Armenian rock group from Australia. I'm sure you will like it (although personnally i don't like it much).

Try it! It wouldn't hurt ya!

Dear Steve,

I was watching TV in Yerevan about two months ago and on came this very nice rock band called MINERAL. I tried to find a CD or even a cassette but to no avail. I heard however that they are moving up.

In soviet times, I remember, there were few groups playing rock and singing in Armenian. Even hard rock! Don't remember the names, except one - "36.6" It wasn't the most prominent, just the name stuck in my mind...

Rock is in its embrionic stage in Armenia. Actually it has always been in this stage. There were groups before and there are now but they are not that popular. They have a limited number of fans, who are actually their friends, and this looks ridiculous. And also the rock in Armenian sounds funny. I think that the only language that can be used for singing rock is English.

The people who listen to rock are also a minority.

Berj,I don't agree that Rock only sounds good in English. You obviously haven't heard rock in Spanish! It really kicks and is becoming very popular in the US, and not just with Hispanics. Groups like La Ley,Mana,Jaguares,Cafe Tacuba are redefining rock as we know it. I doubt you can get a hold of cds there in Yerevan, but with MP3 maybe you can have a listen. If you can, log on to superestrella.com, they have an English portal, some of what they play is fluff pop(Ricky Martin, ugh!) but they also play rock.

Farsi jan sorry,

I think I'm conservative in everything, even when it comes to rock.

I don't like German and French rap, I don't like samba, rumba and mambo in English and I will not like rock in Armenian if any.

LISTEN UP EVERYONE, THERE IS A REALLY REALLY GOOD "ROCK" GROUP THAT'S ALL ARMENIANS, AND THEY ONLY SIGN IN ARMENIAN. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE ONLY RELEASED 1 CD, AND THAT WAS LIKE 10 YEARS AGO. THEY ARE A GROUP FROM HRAZDAN, ARMENIA AND THE BAND IS CALLED "AREVATSAG". THEY WON FIRST PLACE IN THE FIRST EVER ARMENIAN ROCK COMPETITION A LONG LONG TIME AGO. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFO OR EMAIL ME @ azograby@uci.edu
