The Iranian media has been alleging that the London bombings were planned by the West to justify attacking Islam in the name of combating terrorism.

This is the first time newspaper editorials have commented on the London bombing because of a long weekend.

Iranian officials began by expressing their shock and sympathy for what happened in London.

But with time to reflect, many of Iran's newspapers have taken on an unusually hardline stance.

Kayhan paper says Britain and the US had to create an atmosphere of terror and insecurity in London so that the G8 leaders would endorse their belligerent policies like the occupation of Iraq.

The paper's editorial called President Bush "stupid" and said he and Tony Blair would make a very successful comedy duo.

While the Jumhuri Islami newspaper says the bombs were planned to give the west a reason to attack Islam under the fictitious cover of combating terrorism.

It said creating problems for Muslims in Europe was also part of the plan.

The more moderate Iran News says Osama Bin Laden has support because many Muslims feel their religion, culture and civilisation have been dishonoured and humiliated by western policies in the Middle East.

That is ridiculous. Iran should look at itself before it accuses the west of corruption.

There are many definitions of "the west".  I somehow do not think they took the occidental definition.  If that's the case, I don't think its so ridiculous.

The British government would not have the audacity to purposely murder their own people. Just for you to consider it is absurd.
