Likely to make the biggest splash is the 2005 Mustang. An American icon celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Mustang has been completely redesigned, taking design cues from its celebrated past and combining them with a fully modern structure and chassis. Inside the Mustang a unique instrument panel allows drivers to change the backlight color to suit their personality. "We weren’t just redesigning a car, we were adding another chapter to an epic," said J Mays, Ford Motor Company group vice president of design. Mustang will be available with a choice of two engines. The base will feature a 210-horsepower V6, while the GT sports a V8 producing 300 horsepower. Prices start at less than $20,000. For anyone requiring more performance, the car to look for is the Ford GT. The new GT delivers on Ford’s promise to produce a 200-mph supercar for less than $150,000—pricing has been set at $139,900. On sale later this year will be the smaller H3. Based on the Chevrolet Trailblazer platform, the H3 will be powered by a 5-cylinder engine, providing considerably better fuel economy than its larger siblings. Looks, of course, are all Hummer, and its maker claims the new H3 will have the off-road capability associated with the Hummer brand. Also joining the H2 lineup is the 2005 Hummer H2 SUT, which was first shown in production form at the 2004 Los Angeles International Auto Show. With all the styling and abilities of the current H2, the H2 SUT adds the utility of a pickup truck bed. The SUT features a midgate similar to that found on the Chevrolet Avalanche, making it possible to fold the rear seats down and extend the cargo bed into the cabin. The H2 SUT is built at the AM General assembly facility in Mishawaka, Ind., and went on sale last spring. The Humvee-based H1 remains unchanged for the 2005 model year. Now the luxury marque from Ford Motor Company is making a new attempt and hoping to avoid some of the mistakes it made the first time around. Based on the redesigned 2004 Ford F-150, the Mark LT has a bold grille similar to that of the Lincoln Navigator, wherein the 8-inch-by-2-inch Lincoln star in the center glows with white backlighting. Other details include chrome accents, 20-inch chrome-plated wheels, chrome running boards and a luxurious interior with white instrument lighting. The Mark LT is “for people who own land, have big toys and know how to live and travel in style,” said Darryl Hazel, Lincoln-Mercury president. The Mark LT has four full-size doors and a 5.5-foot-long pickup bed. Power comes from a 300-horsepower 5.4-liter Triton V8 capable of producing 365 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. Both 4X2 and 4X4 versions will be available. Pricing has not yet been announced. Also coming in calendar year 2005 will be the all-new Zephyr entry-level sedan. Designed to attract a younger buyer to the Lincoln brand, the Zephyr "teaser" that was unveiled at the New York Auto Show gives a good indication of what the final production version of this sedan will look like. The Zephyr is built on Ford Motor Company's CD3 midsize platform, tuned specifically for the Lincoln brand. "The arrival of the all-new Tacoma series marks the first step in expanding our presence in the North American light truck arena," said Don Esmond, Toyota Division senior vice president and general manager. "Larger in every metric of comparison, the new Tacoma offers an extensive variety of body-and-bed configurations with substantially more passenger room, cargo volume and towing capacity than before." Leading the Tacoma launch is the high-performance X-Runner. Sporting a new 245-horsepower V6 with a 6-speed manual transmission, the X-Runner rides on a lowered chassis, and features full-vehicle-surround ground effects, a hood scoop and integrated fog lamps. In other truck news, the 4Runner gets a more powerful V8 engine, as does the full-size Sequoia, which also gets revised styling for 2005. The full-size Tundra pickup truck also receives more power from its V8, which gets teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. Sip Posted November 12, 2004 Report Share Posted November 12, 2004 The tacomas for 05 are pretty sweet ... no V8 but the V6 is 245HP and 282 ft-lb torque @ 3800 rpm... not too shabby! But the H3 is gay, the F*rd is going to be yet another f*rd with the same old f*rd problems. I think the only thing exciting in 05 is the Unlimited Jeep with the Rubicon package. Man that guy is crazy. The front dana 30 will snap like a tooth pick off road!!!! The suspension is not too bad. The steering doesn't look too bad though .. but still, I would be very reluctant to spend that kind of money on that, unless it's only for show. Offroad, that will not last too long.
