Thoth is absolutely not an idiot - he is one of the most cunning, devious, and manipulative persons you could meet. (Thus, it gives me great pleasure to know that I am skillful enough to annoy him. )

A bit missleading, it is the virus that needs the more modern versions of Outlook and Office. Those of us that are still "struggling" along with windows98, office 2000, explorer 5.5, etc, are unaffected by it all.

Sorry - my irony is resting at the moment (hell, I think the darn thing is in hybernation!) I agree that there is no point in advocating spurious conditions like "Genocide recognition". Turkey should not beccome a member of the EU because it membership would seriously damage the self-interest of Europe as a whole. As to how anyone in Europe can protest on those grounds, I don't know. This supposed EU "club" is a strange sort of club that can admit new "members" without any permision needed from current members. This is to do with the ruling elites in Europe doing what they want, regardless of what the vast majority of the population wants. That's why you should be concerned - It's an issue about who governs us / controls us, and not only about potentual Turkish membership. You can be sure that there will be masses of pro-Turkish propaganda produced by the EU should a "yes" to Turkish membership be close. I don't yet see that propaganda - so I don't think Turkish membership is close. Nairi, I am a bit puzzled by your use of the phrase "your European compatriots", since in my eyes you are as "European" as someone living anywhere in Europe. (And culturally, I'd bet you are more "European" than most). So I still don't get your sudden onset of hand-washing over issues that will be so important to Europe's future. Weren't you only a short while ago chiding someone else for constantly disparaging the culture of the country (America) he was living in, and saying how privilaged you felt to be living in a country with freedom like the Netherlands. I don't know what's changed with you since then, or why.

Sorry - no way (not even in the dreams of a california commuter ) It's at least 2 1/2 hours (to somewhere like Vakifli).

I'd rather have a forum where half the posts are nothing more than insults, than have one smothered by your tyranical rules. What to one person might be an insult, is to another person an entirely justifiable comment. What is to one person an entirely personal issue is to another a thing of univeral importance. And it is NOT for you do decide which is which, even though you have the power to. The correct view is one that is sustained by reasoned argument. Idiots ultimately annoy only other idiots: eventually they will have nothing to say and will leave on their own accord. There is no need to ban anyone. Your rules, on the other hand, drive away potentually valuable members and discourage potentually valuable contributions and discussions. Take a hands off approach and find the courage and confidence to do nothing.

Turkey Gets Ready To Hinder Armenian Genocide's 90
bellthecat replied to Siamanto's topic in Genocide
OK, 90 is just a number. But, given that society seems obsessed with marking anniversaries, I expect that there will be lots of events planned, (maybe even some of them worthwhile!) Perhaps there should be a separate thread on this in the "Genocide" section: proposals, ideas, listing of confirmed events, links, etc. -
Which version is this? One of the reasons I am still on version 5.5 is that I had read that Premiere Pro has completely changed its editing interface. (The other reasons being that it only runs on XP and supposedly eats up memory like there were gigabytes of it).
-
No - I didn't know about it. But, isn't surprising, since nobody tells me anything anyway.
-
Yes, you sometimes see them on sale on the international version of ebay. And also on the German ebay, where I have also seen stone ones for sale.

Says who? (Apart from yourself).

Sivas, Konya. Nigde. ?? They are hardly at the "hearth", maybe at the threshold, but arguably really only at the lowest step up to the door.
-
Well, it has surprised me how many people are tracing their roots to within the territory of Armenia proper, rather than to border areas like Sivas or Kayseri, or to areas further west. This can't be the area where most survivors from the genocide came from, can it? Or have things changed completely now that so many Armenians have migrated from ROA, and their ancestors would have come from what is now eastern Turkey.

Come on Alp! Ethnicity has little to do with language. Many Greeks spoke only Armenian in central Anatolia. Many Armenians spoke only Turkish. And of course, as has been pointed out, you (conveniently?) miss out mentioning Kurds (or for that matter Alevi's, or Kizilbashs) by concentrating only on language.
-
Gamavor might be a rude little ba*tard most of the time , but his last response is sort of similar to my thoughts: my response to Alp would be "let's see yours first", since just saying "a Turk from Istanbul" is meaningless.

He is probably having you on - and sees the chance to extract extra money from you. If there is any difference in thickness then it is not visible to the eye and ceetainly within the tolerances of th cd player. Some of the early data cds were thicker than music CD, and so were some early recordable data CDs, so I suppose it depends on how old your recordable CDs are. (I've had a quick look on my shelf and looked at an old 4x speed one from about 6 or 7 years ago and an old Kodak photo-cd one from 5 years ago, and both are definitely thicker than today's ones).

Yes, the washing of hands of a subject that has about the same amount of importance as worrying about whether to pick your nose before blowing it or after blowing it.
-
What's up, Nairi? Such stormig-speak easy superficiality is unusual for you. Of course, recognition of the Armenian genocide is a complete non-issue regarding potentual Turkish membership. But there are plenty of very important real issues connected to it. And if you can "move out", there are plenty who cannot, or would not want to. You cannot simple do a Pilate-like washing of your hands on this subject and still retain your credibility.
-
I don't know about that - I haven't any idea what an "embedded NP" or "Prepositional Phrase" or "Determiner" is, but I can still speak pretty good English when I want to!

The last Van kitten pic I have. It's a bit cheezy though: I bet the now adult cat would wince with embarassement if shown it. http://mysite.freeserve.com/virtualani/cats/cat4.jpg

Yes, them and a lot of other minor dynasties. The Seljuk Turks actually had little interest in Armenia (once they had passed through it) and ended up ruling the formerly Byzantine lands in central anatolia. It was the minor Turkish dynasties that caused all the problems for Armenia.
-
Because they didn't come before the Turks, obviously!

A sweetie (both of them ). But the fluffy blue-eyed one looks like an Angora cat.

What struck me was how ugly all the houses were. There is not a single redeeming (or even Armenian) feature in any them. Which might be appropriate because probably you could say the same about their eventual owners. Once again, proof that wealth does not buy taste and sometimes even excludes it.
