Siamanto
Turkey Gets Ready To Hinder Armenian Genocide's 90-Th Anniversary Azg/am 29 Sept 04 "Turkey is getting ready to hinder Armenian Genocide's 90-th anniversary", Abdullah Gul, foreign affairs minister of Turkey, declared in New York. Gul met with representatives of the Turkish community of America in New York's Turkish House and shared the plans against "US Armenians' undertakings concerning the so-called Armenian Genocide's 90-th anniversary", Anatolu news agency informs. "The Foreign Ministry has set up a committee for that purpose. The committee will call meetings and do scientific research on the matter. The members of the committee will visit you in the US from time to time", Abdullah Gul said. Meanwhile the minister called on the Turks of USA to apply for American citizenship. Boghos
What is this ? Some kind of bad joke(s) ? These clowns should do something useful...what kind of retarded logic does a foreign minister have ?

These clowns should do something useful...what kind of retarded logic does a foreign minister have ? style_images/master/snapback.png I guess their country is not in such a bad shape... of course they don't have to bother about their high inflation, their debts, their internal affairs, or they don't need to make more job... No... ! They will rather waste more millions to "research" scientifically, millions in lobbying and propagandizing, buying accademics etc... when for them it is a lost cause... since Armenians havn't shut up and obviously after 90 years they won't. I do not call this a desperate final attempt to erase history anymore, but rather pure insanity.

These clowns should do something useful...what kind of retarded logic does a foreign minister have ? style_images/master/snapback.png It is not a bad joke, Boghos. It is a carefully calculated diplomatic statement. If the Armenian Genocide is an ordinary event that can be hindered by "getting prepered to it" that mean that AG is nothing but a propaganda from Armenian side and can be confronted by similar kind of propaganda. By this statement Gul tries to depreciate the whole value of the AG as an event of any significance.

After 90 years of persistant denial, those moves are not anymore a desperate move from the Turks but compleat insanity... they do not maintain intact reality testing. It is an accute cases of insanity. Medication is needed... and medication is for them to be smashed by cold real facts... their arguments being destroyed in international platforms. I'm one pill of anti-psychotic for them, so as any diasporan Armenian, let fill the pill bottle and medicate them by informing the world. They still have hope to achieve the denial because we haven't succeded to bulit and normal country yet. And we can also say it otherwise. Until Turkey is denying the Genocide, it is us who give them the freedom to do that by having a lousy state.

The only thing in may change is that Armenia may be more respected so it could influence countries political decisions. The genocide is more about the diaspora. The Armenian state is the most powerful legal claimant of the issue because it can raise the issue in international organisations. Moreover, Armenia has declared in its constitution that it is a perusant of this issue, which means that this issue is one of the cornerstones of our statehood. This also means that no citizen of Armenia has the power to stop the persuance of AG if the constitution is not revised.

But this is once again a statement that is made purely for domestic consumption. Only Turks and Azeris believe this. They just make fools of themselves. That´s why it is a bad joke. Moreover, the foreign minister of a "great nation" asking Turks to become US citizens, come on what kind of idiotic strategy is that ? This is typical of the mentality of people that have been living for far too long in another dimension, removed from reality. Well, he probably isn't asking them to apply for US citizenship out of concern for US interests. They probably need to bolster their electoral numbers to gain the support of a few Senators and Representatives.
bellthecat
OK, 90 is just a number. But, given that society seems obsessed with marking anniversaries, I expect that there will be lots of events planned, (maybe even some of them worthwhile!) Perhaps there should be a separate thread on this in the "Genocide" section: proposals, ideas, listing of confirmed events, links, etc.
nairi
I'm getting the feeling that Turkey is doing everything right now to be denied accession to the EU. I think they have made one too many controversial changes in such a short period of time. It's like they're preparing their public to give up hope for EU. I would say it is usual for the FM of Turkey... relativistically speaking it isn't more silly than the usual for a FM of Turkey.

However, this kind of statements frustrate Armenians. That's his target - to frustrate us on highest possible level of government (dispora organisation) and generate a hysterical reacion. He is suggesting Turks to apply for citizenship to kind of "win with quantity". There are lot of Turks in Turkey and if some % of them moves to U.S. they can create a dispora, lobby and block us. However, he forgets that Jews have been doing that for them in the U.S. Congress even better than any Turks would ever do. Simultaneously, by that he wants to "worn out" our resitance on the sub-conscious level. Many Armenians may potentially get hopeless after such a statement.
