SAN FRANCISCO, March 2, 2006 – Out of more than 200,000 attorneys California Lawyer Magazine chose attorneys Mark Geragos, Brian Kabateck and Vartkes Yeghiayan to be among the few attorneys which will receive the prestigious California Lawyer Attorney’s of the Year Award in litigation. The CLAY Award recognizes those attorneys throughout the state whose work has had a profound, far-reaching impact over the past year. The attorneys honored changed law, broke new ground in various practice areas, and substantially influenced public policy.

Armenian-American lawyers Mark Geragos, Brian Kabateck and Vartkes Yeghiayan were recognized for their work in reaching two settlements of $20 million and $17.5 with insurance companies on behalf of descendants of Armenians killed during the Armenian Genocide.

Martin Marootian, et al. v. New York Life Insurance Company and Kyurkjian, et. al. v. AXA were momentous since they represent the oldest resolved cases in U.S. History – 90 years passed between the events giving rise to these cases and their settlement. They are also the first recorded cases addressing issues involving the Armenian Genocide.

All three attorneys are of Armenian decent and descendants of Genocide victims and survivors. Through these cases, they feel honored to have helped people understand the magnitude of the atrocities committed during the Armenian Genocide.

The global pandemic has impacted almost every business; for months, the country has been paralyzed with small and medium enterprises suspending operations one after the other. While it was a world problem and we had a hope to recover soon after the quarantine, the country was struck for the second time by war, the fact that was predictable but still caused a shock. The business sector that somehow survived the coronavirus pandemic and was rehabilitating, was again under attack. All resources were used for the frontline, for supporting soldiers and refugees. The war that lasted more than forty days took lives and resources; the country and every single business sector faced the fact of complete uncertainty. And now, it is time to sum up by evaluating the losses, understanding the current situation, and sharing plans for the future.

It is the food of the first necessity.

The citizens are convinced that the authorities can do things so as citizens not to feel the raise in price.

Details are available in the video

Source: http://en.a1plus.am/1267932.html

HCAV demands to bring case against Serzh Sargsyan

Today, on December 13, 2017, the HCAV sent a letter on the crime to the RA General Prosecutor’s Office on the issue of bringing a criminal case against Serzh Sargsyan, based on the statements he made during the conference dedicated to the Local Self-Government and Territorial Administration Bodies on December 9.

The full crime report can be viewed HERE

Source: http://en.a1plus.am/1267930.html

Municipality cuts off trees and replaces them with new ones

Four trees were cut off at the beginning of Komitas, opposite “Fresh” supermarket. Jokes mixed with good music,” says Hayk.

“Well, what is New year? You look back, sum up your past, evaluate your present and make future plans. That means that there are many spheres to make jokes on.”

Hayk has decided to keep away from political humor as much as possible. It is not conneted with courage, but people are so politicized that have right to be away from politics at least during those days.

Nevertheless, there will be some political elements as well. As we are going to summarize the year, there will be light jokes. They are also going to speak about our soldiers.

Mikael Voskanyan, Sona Rubenyan, Masha Mnjoyan are going to be special guests.

Hayk loves celebrating New year with his family and friends. Alternative choices, such as climing a mounatin, he does not accept.

For Hayk New Year is the warmest holiday that should be spent with family, which he associates with his grandmother, as when one says “warmness” he remembers his grandmother at once.

But in recent years, it is not possible to celebrate it at home. He has been in the army for two years and then, because of his work, he cannot stay at home on December 31, as it is the best day to conduct corporate evenings.

” We drift even from our families and friends in this globalized world. So, for me New Year is a holiday to return home,” says Hayk.

Source: http://en.a1plus.am/1267926.html

EU concludes negotiations with Armenia for a new aviation agreement

24 November 2017

On the occasion of the Eastern Partnership Summit held today in Brussels, the European Union concluded negotiations with Armenia for a new aviation agreement. It is estimated that this agreement will bring an additional 87.000 additional passengers and will generate more than €16 million in the first five years. This agreement will improve market access for airlines, providing better connectivity, more choice and lower fares for travellers. More flights also mean more jobs and more wealth for all partners.

Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc said, “Today we are further delivering on our ambitious aviation strategy by taking our aviation relations with Armenia to the next level. This agreement will not only improve market access, it will also contribute to the highest safety, security and environmental standards. This is good news for European and Armenian travellers and businesses.”

Besides market access, these agreements will establish a common regulatory framework, for instance in the fields of aviation safety and security. This agreement was negotiated by the European Commission as part of its Aviation Strategy for Europe, a milestone initiative to give a new boost to European aviation and provide new business opportunities.

Next steps:

The Armenian delegation has agreed to recommend its authorities to sign the agreement following the completion of the necessary internal procedures.

Background information

The European Commission is currently negotiating new aviation agreements with the Association of Southeast Asian Nationals (ASEAN), Qatar, Tunisia and Turkey. Once signed, over 75% of all passengers flying in and out of the EU, or more than 240 million passengers per year, would be covered by EU-level aviation agreements.

In addition the EU has already negotiated with partners like the US, Canada, Morocco, Jordan, the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Israel, Georgia, Moldova and Switzerland which have already brought significant benefits. For instance, passenger numbers have doubled with partners such as the Western Balkans, Morocco, and Georgia.

For more information:

Fact Sheet – Aviation Agreement with Armenia

An Aviation Strategy for Europe

Source: http://en.a1plus.am/1267225.html

First Book Festival opens today

The first Yerevan Book Festival was opened today, with publishers, bookworms, writers and translators present.

“It’s a welcome, not just the Yerevan Book Festival, which is the first initiative of the Ministry of Culture, but any initiative related to the book and promoting reading,” said Khachik Vardanyan, director of “Bookinist” bookstore.

Source: http://en.a1plus.am/1267222.html

Armenian football fans do not trust Jose Mourinho

According to a survey conducted by A1 +, Armenian football fans blame the coach for Henrikh Mkhitaryan not being included in Manchester United in recent times. 21% of respondents expressed this opinion. They are convinced that Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has little confidence in Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Equal number of football fans consider that our player is out of the main squad due to poor physical condition, which is worrying, or he does not endure the inner team contention that has recently aggravated since midfielders Paul Pogba, Marwa Fellaini and Juan Matan returned after recovery.

Here is the complete result of the poll:

Question: What is wrong?
