Երևանում կառուցվելիք Ակադեմիական քաղաքի տարածքում աշխատող հնագետները հայտնաբերել են բնակավայրի հետքեր, որոնք կարող են շուրջ 15 հազար տարվա հնություն ունենալ։ Հնավայրը կարող է բացառիկ լինել ոչ միայն Հայաստանի, այլև ամբողջ տարածաշրջանի համար։ Պեղումներն իրականացվում են Երևանի ծայրամասում՝ Սիլիկյան թաղամասի մոտ, Ակադեմիական քաղաքի կառուցման վայրում։ Հնավայրը դեռ 1980-ականներին հայտնաբերել էր հնագետ Հակոբ Սիմոնյանը, սակայն լայնածավալ պեղումներն այստեղ վերսկսվել են միայն 2025 թվականին։ Հնագետ Կարեն Երիցյանի խոսքով՝ շուրջ 500 քառակուսի մետր տարածքում պեղումների արդյունքում հայտնաբերվել են մոտ 42 սենյակ ու շրջանաձև կառույցներ՝ 2-ից 5 մետր տրամագծով։ Դրանցից մի քանիսն ունեն հարթեցված կավե հատակներ։ Գտածոների շարքում առանձնանում է ավելի քան 17 մետր տրամագծով մի խոշոր կառույց, որը, ենթադրաբար, ունեցել է հասարակական կամ համայնքային նշանակություն։ Այն կառուցված է միջին ու խոշոր քարերով, ունի կորագիծ պատաշար և կավե հատակ։ Նախնական տվյալներով՝ ներկայում պեղվող շերտերը կարող են շուրջ 15 հազար տարվա վաղեմություն ունենալ։ Հնավայրը կարող է բացառիկ լինել Հայաստանի և ամբողջ տարածաշրջանի համար։ Այդ ժամանակաշրջանին պատկանող հայտնի բնակավայրերի մեծ մասը հայտնաբերվել է քարանձավներում կամ քարանձավային համալիրներում, մինչդեռ Սիլիկյանի հնավայրը, ըստ նախնական տվյալների, բացօթյա բնակավայր է։ Այս հայտնագործությունը կարող է նոր պատկերացում տալ այն մասին, թե հազարավոր տարիներ առաջ այս տարածքում ինչպես էին ապրում մարդիկ, ինչպես էին կառուցում իրենց կացարաններն ու կազմակերպում բնակավայրը։ Առաջարկվում է հնավայրը և այստեղ շարունակվող պեղումները ներառել Ակադեմիական քաղաքի գիտական ու կրթական ծրագրերում։ Եթե հետագա ուսումնասիրությունները հաստատեն հնավայրի տարիքն ու կարևորությունը, այն կարող է դառնալ Ակադեմիական քաղաքի առանձնահատուկ մասերից մեկը՝ ժամանակակից գիտակրթական կենտրոնը կապելով այս տարածքում շուրջ 15 հազար տարի առաջ ապրած մարդկանց պատմության հետ։ Պեղումները շարունակվում են։ Հնավայրի ճշգրիտ տարիքը, տարածքն ու պատմական նշանակությունը պարզելու համար դեռ անհրաժեշտ են լրացուցիչ ուսումնասիրություններ

In September 1922, when Turkish troops conquered and set fire to Smyrna, hundreds of thousands of Armenian and Greek refugees found themselves in the port, between fire and sea. While a dozen or so warships from Western powers watched indifferently as people were drowned and massacred for political reasons, the captain of the Japanese merchant ship "Tokei Maru", T. Norito, performed a remarkable feat. He ordered that the entire precious cargo of the ship (oil and porcelain) be thrown into the sea and rescued on the deck over 825 Armenian and Greek refugees. When Turkish officers threatened to hand them over, the captain declared that the ship was owned by the Emperor of Japan and that any violation would be considered a declaration of war. The Turks withdrew and the ship brought the survivors safely to Greece. This fact is confirmed by an article in the New York Times and eyewitness accounts.
