Icon of Holy Spirit: Armenian community through Syrian director's camera

The Icon of Holy Spirit, a new film by Syrian director Firas Nana, covers the life of the local Armenians, featuring it as a component of the Syrian society, SANA news agency reported.

The initiative is said to be a part of Nana’s film series about the ethnic minorities residing in the country. His previous film is about the Kurds.

An inn called Hogetun, where the Armenians stopped on their way to Jerusalem, as well as a 500-year-old Armenian church built to commemorate 40 martyrs, have come under the director’s spotlight. The church is home to several key masterpieces of the East, some of them dating from the Middle Ages. The film also features the life of the Syrian-Armenian merchants.

Its plot is based on the narrations of a young female six-grader.

The shooting of the film lasted five days, but the director says that despite the scarcity of time, he managed to cover all the topics he had initially planned.
