Culture and Tourism Director Hakan Doganay of Turkey's Kars Province
informed that the latter's Saint Arakelots (Apostles) Armenian Church,
which is at the focus of tourists, was turned into a mosque four times
all through history.
But not mentioning `Armenian' or `Armenia,' Doganay stressed that the
aforesaid church, which was built in 937 by the Armenian Bagratuni
Dynasty and devoted to the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, is
currently used as a domed mosque, T24.com website of Turkey reports.
To note, there were rumors, after the last restoration at the church,
that it could become either a church or a museum. But, eventually, it
was turned into a mosque, even though there are engraved crosses and
the images of the apostles on the walls of the church.
