I'm also big fan of Ruben. Although he is more poet and intellectual than a musician, I think his music is more Armenian than those Middle Eastern Kiochek sounds that someone lied poor Armenians that they are Armenian.
Pilafhead, one need to explore the Armenian folk heritage (which somehow thanks to Gomidas has been preserved) and also the ancient Armenian religious chants, to understand and feel the true spirit of the Armenian national music.

Razbirat.com presents a page dedicated to...

Lyrics

Mer Siro Ashune (The Autumn of our love)

Do you think the rain’s been drumming on your window all day long?
It’s the words of my repentance, falling down drop by drop.
See them, rolling down the glass and down into the endless brine;
Words that only you can hear in this belated song of mine.

What is this confession now, overdue regret, - for what?
Love has always been a riddle that I never can decode.
It was autumn that was mocking, slapping me with faded leaves,
And the girl that kept on weeping silently among the trees.

Only now I understand: the past shall not be back again.
It’s for sins that I’ve committed that I’m being made to pay.
For that weeping girl, that autumn are the fortune that I’ve lost.
Heedless deeds of wild youth is what I now regret the most.

We all know that happiness can only come a single time.
It then promptly disappears, leaves its business card behind.
We then seek it everywhere, we go on looking all our lives,
But the address on the card is one that no man ever finds.

Translated by Gugo

Im spitak aghavnin (My white dove)

My song is my white dove
It flies to you, my dear
Through the chilly wind
But my white dove still flies

My faith is my white dove
It stays alive for you, my dear
Sometimes I get scared it won't reach you
But my white dove still flies

And no matter how strong the chilly wind is,
It will land on your tender palms

Miayn du chtxres (But only don't be sad)

But only don't be sad
And don't let tears on your face
These blue days will pass, will disappear
And these cold winds, evil winds
Will splash on your face and be gone

And a sweet voice will appear in the distance
Waking all the hopes inside of you
Where are the endless roads taking you today?
Stop somewhere, my wayfarer

There's no use of walking
When your feet are tired
There's no use of walking
When the roads are tired of you

With a forgotten melody, with a distant song
I lost you in the faraway lands
But I know that one day you will return
And carry this happiness along
Into my aching heart

Qo champan aynkan parz (Your road is so clear)

Your road is so clear and so full of sunshine
My road is curved and full of rain
You like to stare at the light of day
I only trust my stars in the midnight sky

You keep telling me that the night is made only for sleeping
But I wake up at night and search for songs
And if my songs don't stay close to your heart
I must get away from you, my love

You keep telling me that I don't understand this life
That I earn little, that I spend a lot
I know only that people live once,
Fall in love once and die once

You keep telling me that life is a struggle
But my dear, I feel so tired of that
And even if we didn't meet this year on a good note,
I believe that my garden will bloom in spring

And if one day I end up in a jail
And if one day I return home from there
I will sing so loudly
And wake up everyone :)

So I was asked to bring some Armenian music CDs to an event. And imagine my horror, I don’t have anything other than Rouben Hakhverdian, who is a musical genius, his words and guitar have always weaved enchanting patterns of rapture for me.

I also have some MP3s of little Rolly Polly “rabies” (like some one has said), you know the usual “Armenchik” and what not. But frankly, I really don’t enjoy the music, unless I am terribly drunk and getting a kick out of granmas and granpas holding each others hands in a circle doing their best mini kicks for their age. Although I am at risk of being booed by the Armenian majority who take Rabiz music to the level of extreme intimacy with the Artists, I still believe that there must be some stuff that doesn’t necessary involve Duduk, or that snake like sound of one of the musical instruments. So that being said, I am stuck by a state of panic, do we have any other music resembling to Rouben’s? Something along the lines of classic rock or any other quality genre? Can you please help?

Thanks,
-Signed- Desperate in the Rabiz Music Land :(

HEY HEY! You're blowing my cover, smarty pants!! :D I responded to you in the "Books" thread, regarding this keen observation of yours. VAy VAy VAY, demq es eli! :D

I thought that our likeness has been established from the start, at least I can say that mine instantly sprung with your support of my feminist views. Regardless, compliments from you are always held in very high esteem by me. ;)
