Hey everyone, I went to Armenia this past summer, and I'm in the process of putting most of my Armenia pics on the net, because I want every Armenian to have pics of Armenia (in Yerevan, and in other provinces) so they can use as their desktop pics. I just want people to be interested in Armenia the most. Now the pics that I have equate up to 1.2 GB! I am thinking posting them on file sharing sites like rapideshare.com, what do you guys think? And trust me...the pics are worth it smile.gif Even though they were taken wit ha 4 MP Canon PowerShot :-S

Hello
Welcome to Hyeforum

haw big is each image ?
you might wish to keep the originals as you have - but post a edited / sized dawn version on the net , that will save you space and be much faster for the rest to see.

Thank you

Mos jan it won't be the same if I size them down. These pics have to be the way they are, so people can zoom in and use as decent desktop wallpapers. I'm thinking of just archiving them as a batch of 100 MB .rar files and posting them on www.rapidshare.com. Each day each person can download a few files, and once he has the entire batch (which will be about 11 or 12 of those 100 MB .rar files), they can unzip them. I'm organizing the photographs so people know exactly where everything is (and they don't go like...oh where is this?). I wrote everything in Armenian so that ALL Armenians, not the Armenian-Americans from here, but all Armenians around the world can understand me and the filenames.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I'll post the links here once I am completely finished with everything smile.gif

And thanks for the warm welcome smile.gif

Sounds like a Trojan Horse (as in computer virus) to me. Why does he want our users to download an RAR file and execute files on our hard drive?

Nor Hayastan, just post to Flickr as JPEGs and have people view it through their browser. I don't think anyone wants to download 1.2 GB.

A rar file is pretty harmless. No worries about a "trojan horse" from just a rar file. The rar file doesn't get "executed" ... you just unpack it (similar to zip files). But once you extract the files out of the rar file and you see things in there other than pictures, then you can delete them with no problems.

In any case, ZIP or RAR won't save anything if the files are JPEG. Jpegs are already compressed. However, zip or rar can be used to group them together for easier download which is I think what the purpose is here.

Hey guys! I'm sorry I didn't respond, it's just I had a lot of pics, in fact, more than I thought! All of the pics will come to about 2.4 GB, or around 24 100 MB .rar files.

In regards to Shahan's opinions, like Sip said, you can't get a virus or trojan horse from .rar files. And besides, why would I want to do something like that to fellow Armenians? Vsta eghir yes aytpisi baner chem ani Shahan jan, ayl @nthakarrak@, lavutyun em uzum anem mer azgi hamar ays nkarnerov smile.gif

Attached I put a couple of samples, I hope everyone likes them:

1. Republic Square
[attachmentid=2195]
2. Newly established (and still in progress) Northern Avenue, which connects Opera to the Republic Museum
[attachmentid=2196]
3. A picture of the road and scenery from Arcax to Yerevan
[attachmentid=2197]
4. Inside Tamara Ice Cream factory located in the City of Abovyan, in Kotayq province
[attachmentid=2198]

Enjoy! more to come soon...

I have around 70 pictures left to do, and then I will start uploading them. Just give me another week to two weeks and everyone can see the pictures smile.gif Thanks again for all your support! wink.gif
