`I was very young when they arrested me. What followed was ten years
in jail. I had turned 29 by the time I was released. I was arrested
for belonging to an underground students' group called Freedom for
Lithuania. What was wrong with a bunch of students wanting freedom for
Lithuania? The Soviet authorities persecuted us and wanted to erase
the Baltic States. There was a great Armenian painter there as well,
Ashot Sanamyan. He had been arrested for membership in the Independent
Armenia secret organization and spent twenty years in prison. I have
written about him too,' says Antonina Mahari.

Dear Arpa - the sad part is my grandfather passed away from Siberian plague way before I was born... from digging information I found out that he was jailed 3 times, each time for a long period... I have met Mrs. Antonina in person once which was few years back. In fact Gurgen has mentioned grandfather quiet a few times in his books! :-)
Siberian plague case registered in Cherkassy region.
Plague is a deadly infectious disease that is caused by the enterobacteria Yersinia pestis, named after the French-Swiss bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin. Primarily carried by rodents (most notably rats) and spread to humans via fleas, the disease is notorious throughout history, due to the unrivaled scale of death and devastation it brought. Until June 2007

I'm always chiming in late, and this is somewhat off topic (I will get to that at a more convenient time), bu Pasteur was always wrong. Come on. Even he knew that:
http://greenearthfou...bernard-on.html
There is an apocryphal story that Pasteur renounced his germ theory on his death-bed, saying that “Bernard is right. The microbe is nothing. The environment is everything.” The renowned 20th century French-American microbiologist René Dubos (1901-1982) agreed with Bernard’s principle: “Most microbial diseases are caused by organisms present in the body of a normal individual. They become the cause of disease when a disturbance arises which upsets the equilibrium of the body.”
