SurbNshan.Javakhk1915-23.com

We launched the “Surb Nshan” Project dedicated to St. Nshan church in Akhaltskha (Zarehnu Surb Nshan, i. e. Holy Sign Church, or St. Vardanants). The project has a web version

(SurbNshan.Javakhk1915-23.com) and a PDF version

for printed distribution.

St. Nshan church is one of the most important churches in Lower Javakhk (Samtskhe). It was taken from the Armenian Apostolic Church in 1938 (see below), and the problem of its return still is not solved.

Recent Armenian-Georgian disputes around some churches stress importance of unbiased study of this problem.

The first aim of the “Surb Nshan” project is to collect material about St. Nshan from various sources and to present them in the Internet for maximally wide access. The next aim is translation of the material to

English and Russian to present the issue to broader audience (we also prepare French and Georgian translations).

Help us to spread information about Surb Nshan.

(SurbNshan.

Dear Javakhk. Do you know the difference between this?

And this, Kalashnikov?

One is from the “stone age” and the other from the “ Iron age”.
Which age are we living in?
Is there still any intact stone left in Armenia!!
Hayastan/Karastan!

I think your comment was a bit harsh Arpa jan, unless I have misunderstood the point you were trying to make.

Yes, I was harsh, it was my intention, yet I may not have been harsh enough.
Why are we still building churches? Where are the fabulously fabled 1001 churches of Ani?
Get a hold of the book Lions of Marash by Stanley Kerr and read about what happened. This was not limited to Marash only but to every and all Armenian towns and villages.
When those savages attacked the Armenian quarters, the poor “faithful” were urged, mainly by the clergy of all the denominations to put down their meager defenses , abandon their homes and seek refuge at the “fortresses”, the “houses of God” churches. The faithful did and gathered in the thousands, (man, there were hardly any men left)) woman and child. They took refuge at such churches as St. Astvatsatsin, Sb. Gevorg, Sb. Qarasnits Mankants and others. Those savages armed with swords and guns could not break down the gates , so they climbed up to the roofs, broke opened holes , poured kerosene and set them on fire, immolating, incinerating and burning alive thousands of defenseless women and children.
Now tell me how “harsh” I am when I talk about building a 1001 churches, but not a single fortress or a factory. Look at the so called factories in Armenia that were built during the dark “stone age”, virtual death traps not only to humans but to the entire environment and economy.

ArpA, if you check the project Surb Nshan properly, you will see that it does not concern the theological aspect, at all. Instead, it uses the historical, political aspects connected with this Church to make it a symbol or Armenian presence in Javakhk. Please distribute infrmation about Surb Nshan and Javakhk.

P.S. The photo of Kalashnikov is awesome.
