Vigen Chaldranyan was born in 1955,in Yervan,Armenia.In 1978 he graduated from the theatrical department of the State Art Institute of Armenia.In 1981 Mr. Chaldranyan graduated from the State Cinematography Institute of the Soviet Union in Moscow.As a film director Mr. Chaldranyan has starred in a number of Armenian films such as "A Place Under the Sun", "Anoush" and "Breathing".He has produced a number of shows.Gelman's "Chair" and Brext's "Kuraj Mother" are two of them.in 1985 he produced the short film "April".

This film has won a number of awards:it was selected as the "Best film in Sverdlovsk Film Festival".It was also awarded 1st Prize for the best ethnic film at Kiev's(Ukraine)Film Festival. Mr. Chaldranyan was also the winner at the Moscow Film Festival, "Fipressi" Special Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival and french distinguished prize at the Spain International Film Festival(Bilbao)."April" was Vigen Chaldranyan's first film of his trilogy dedicated to the armenian people.
Second film of the trilogy is "The voice in the Wilderness-The Pilgrimage of Martiros". Production on this film was completed in 1991 at "Armenfilm" studios. This fiction film has gained international recognition for Chaldranyan as a director and an actor.The film has won a number of distinguished prizes at different international film festivals:Michelle Legran Grand Prix,"Debutuer" First Armenian Film Festival,Diploma of Honor at the Moscow International Film Festival,four "Golden Eagle" awards at the Tbilisi International Film Festival, "Golden Award" at the Houston World Film Festival, etc.

From 1993 to 1994 V.Chaldranyan produced "Armenians","The First Armenian","Yerevan-Los Angeles","Where are you Coming From". His recent movies are "Kyrie Eleison" and "Symphony of Silence" which will be premiered in Fall,2000.
