Armenian Church Joins In Condemning 'Da Vinci Code'

AFP

Armenia's Apostolic Church on Tuesday added its voice to worldwide religious condemnations of the film "The Da Vinci Code", calling on Armenians to boycott the blockbuster and the book it is based on.

"The book by Dan Brown is disrespectful in regard to a sacred part of Christianity and insults the feelings of believers," Church spokesman Vahram Melikian told AFP. "It contradicts the Bible and distorts Christian truths," he said.

"The Da Vinci Code", based on a best-selling novel of the same name by US writer Brown, centers on a theory that Jesus Christ fathered a child with Mary Magdalene, and that the Roman Catholic Church covered it up. Since the film's release last week, it has sparked protests from Christian and Muslim groups in numerous countries, some of which have banned it.

"We cannot ban the film. That is done by individuals, whom we call on not to show the film on (cinema) screens in Armenia," Melikian said, adding that Armenia "made Christianity the state religion 1,700 years ago."

i dunno

da vinci code is a pretty provocative book
plus the moron dan brown said it was based on fact but none of it comes anywherer near fact
i think it was done to provoke...but banning it isnt always the sollution
its a little dumb but...when u read the book or watch the movie you have to go open mindedly and you have to regard the subject as FICTION...thats why...1in5 canadians believe this garbadge because they dont know that its fiction

DA VINCI CODE IS A LITMUS PAPER

Da Vinci Code has become a litmus paper to unveil the state of Christianity in our country. It turned out that Christianity is not a state of being for us whereas it should have been an ideology, a means of communication between us and God, preacher of Bible Church Samvel Navoyan told a press conference today.

In his words, the film is banned even in Azerbaijan whereas in Armenia you can rent it at DVD Centers. Khachik Stamboltsyan thinks that the film and the identical book are released by masons who aim to support the unbelievers and nihilists. He also thinks that it tries to “confuse people and redirect them from real Christian faith.” The producers have reached their aim since the premier of the film was held on May 18 in 70 countries at the same time.

In Armenia Da Vinci Code is shown in Nairi cinema only but soon Moscow Cinema House will also show the film. The tickets are sold off very quickly and the book costs about $10 in the country. Some say that the large-scale criticism has caused even more interest among the people. 75 of people said in a TV survey yesterday that Da Vinci Code does not cause any harm to Christianity. /Panorama.am/

yes, it is... it is a litmus paper to distinguish nations of mindless hords from nations of thinkers and analysers... nations where people can read a book / watch a movie and build a life around that 'fiction' and nations where people can read a book / watch a movie, say 'good imagination' / 'nice work of art' (or the opposite), pick up a thing or two from it and move on with their lives....
