It depends on which country you live in, it's also the norm in certain cultures. But in civilised society it's downright rude to do that.A man should not walk ahead of the woman he cares for. He should walk beside her. If she is always left trailing behind him, it speaks volumes about their relationship.

Good cover up.I sometimes have to walk in front because I am bigger and people get out of the way when they see me coming. It's just for practical reasons.

If there is plenty of room and he insists walking ahead then that's rude but if the side walk is narrow then walking ahead is nice since he is like protecting you in case some dog decides to attack....It happened to me.A man should not walk ahead of the woman he cares for. He should walk beside her. If she is always left trailing behind him, it speaks volumes about their relationship.

Of course, whichever way you take the saying (literally or otherwise) the ideal would be side by side. But if one does trail behind the other should not simply carry on. That is when you offer your hand, your shoulder or if necessary your back. That is the only way your journey together will continue.

I completely agree. My mom always tells the story of how she finally felt that women are respected in civilized countries when she first encountered a man (who was a mere hotel manager) deliberately holding back his steps so that she and other women could catch up in Poland, while an Armenian man that was traveling with us kept walking very fast ahead and never even looked back to see how the women (his adult daughter with a baby and my mom with us, children, were doing). She never had such a problem with my dad as my dad either always walks besides us or gently leads us ahead with his hand when there is a narrow passage or a door. But my mom thought of her general observations of growing up in Armenia and seeing men marching feet away from women, while women seemed to try to catch up.A man should not walk ahead of the woman he cares for. He should walk beside her. If she is always left trailing behind him, it speaks volumes about their relationship.

If I am walking with somebody, I'll most likely be talking to them, so it would make no sense to be either behind or in front of them.

No, a woman should always run after her man, on four knees if need be. Preferably with a bottle of beer and some buffalo wings. Thoughts?A man should not walk ahead of the woman he cares for. He should walk beside her. If she is always left trailing behind him, it speaks volumes about their relationship.

edit: changed four knees to her knees. Perhaps if she's a mutant it may work, otherwise only two knees per woman.
