դարչնագույն darchnaguyn/darchin/Cinnamon-colored?
As a general rule any color name that ends in "guyn/ գոյն"is artificial and perhaps recent translations from other languages, possibly from furkish. The classic word for brown/coffee color is tukh/թուխ and grey is գորշ not մոխրագոյն, the latter is a direct translation from the furkish Kul-irengi etc. Not to forget that նարնջագոյն is also artificial, the Armenian word for it is ԾԻՐԱՆԻ

Coming back to “purple-tsirani” observe the chart below and see where purple and tsirani ( orange, in this case) look even close.

Yes. Describing a color by an object rather than using a concrete name for the hue seems adaptive and transitional.
Additionally Arpa, you mention our beloved Ծիրանի for the color orange. Yet in identical structure to նարնջագոյն, Ծիրանի/Tsinari also literally employs the name of a fruit to identify its color. This off course is the case in most languages. But I wonder whether a term independent of the produce association has ever existed?

Would you tell us more about the royal designation of Ծիրանագոյն in Armenia versus the more common purple, or even red?

I don't want to drag this thread away from its intended theme. We'll let Johannes to continue his train of thought. We have spoken about the subject of "rotal colors"under many topics, bu see I found. Go to Mythology and see ԱՌԻՒԾ ՄՀԵՐ. In short, please read between the lines and see the connection to the color of the lion's coat.

Yes dear Zartonk, I did point to “örange” as in that list of colors we don’t see the color of Apricot, the closest is “orange” . Note that the author of the site is not Armenian, maybe Portuguese where that color is known as “portugal irengi”. That is what the furks and the Arabs (aside from the “narinj”) call the “örange”. Once again, “örange-narinj” is not native to Armenia, except in MosJan’s homeland Kilikia. Apricot- Prunus Armeniaca is.
Let us see if we know the Armenian names of the following…colors…
We’ll let Johannes lead the way.
http://www.brobstsys...com/colors1.htm
My greatest joy will be when we have us stop say ing"karmir kapuyt narincha-gaga-googoo". It seems Imay have succeeded somehow, but we still have a long way to go.
Hi Boghos!!!
http://wiki.answers....e_in_Portuguese
How do you say Orange in Portuguese?
-----
Then, why the Arabs call it "burtuqal" and the furks - "portukal"?

"farsi"is a FARCE, when they uprooted their magnificent IndoEurpean language with that of the koran. When even their so called president has a name like "ähmad/mahmad/gagmad" instead of Darosh/Darius. Islam is not a "religion"it is "politics". The reason I have a Pers-Anglo dictionary is because I cannot find a good Arabic one and I use it to look up Arabic, and sometimes "furkish" words.
They should be forever grateful to us that we preserved their "native language". They should adopt Ajarian's Dictionary as a "holy book" to trace their "roots/արմատ (ական)".
And, while we're at it. They should dropthat stupid arabo-semitic script, which is totally inadequate for their language and adopt the Mashtots Alphabet. All (indo) Europeans write left to right. Why are they writing right to left?
How is it that such idiots like the furks and farce-is rue over such expansive counties and we have hardly a "rock"to sit on!!!
