It seems that there is a system here for recognizing good posts. How do you do that?

That's news to me - the forum script has the fucntion, but it's never been activated here.

on technical forums, i have encountered a "reputation" system where helpful technical advice is awarded with points. That is the idea in theory, but what i have seen happen is that people also tend to form groups and give bad reputation points to members who are not in the "in" circle.
so just like most systems, it can be used or abused.

This repuation mechanism was just revoked on a very popular forum a few wks ago.

That doesn't surprise me. Usually these things end up as popularity meters - half the time it means nothing at all... I doubt we'll have one here. (but never say never, i suppose)
