Hi everyone. I need to buy camcorder around $500.00 That's my budget. Any inputs from personal experience? Any suggestions?
I consider Sony DCR-HC40 Mini DV but not sure.

Armat, good choice. I am thinking to get one too and that's one of my choices too(except I am debating to get a sony that writes on a DVD). I owned a sony before, gave to my brother. It is still alive after 4 years of use and functions as it was new.

I'm biased against Sony. smile.gif And after being burned a few times, I no longer support them/but their products. In all fairness I do not own a miniDV camera, and Sony is well reputed in that field. For good measure, you may want to compare feature sets of similarly priced units made by other brands, say, Canon or JVC.

One thing I forgot to mention, the software that came with my old camcorder looked amateurish and sucked. I hope they have improved it by now.

Armat, I highly recommend the Canon ZR200 Camcorder(about 400ish) and if you can go a bit higher I would say get the Canon Elura 70(500ish) and for about 650 the Elure 85

Personally have used the ZR65 for couple of years and it is amazing and zr35 prior to that.

Thanks guys for your inputs. The sony software does suck.I went to sony forum and they all use pinnacle and studio etc. for downloading to pc.
Sony does have a drawback. It has a ducking station which is needed if used direct wall plug in.
I like cannon myself but was not sure. The low end ones have a poor performance in low light situation like recording birthday candle party.
Since you guys used it and like it then that's more valuable then press infos.I am not looking for top shelf since I can't afford it anyway but decent middle road. Thanks for the inputs.

Armat jan, that is true about the Canon and the problem is not that it cant film under low lite but that it has a hard time auto focusing. in those situations what I do it switch just the focusing to manual focus and it works great. I am not sure if they have fixed this issue in the new models or if the Elura line has this same issue. In general they are very very easy to operate. take great video with vibrant color, are light and have a great CCD and leans

I don't know where you are located but if you are near a Fry's Electronics, I highly recommend you go there.

I hate them but always end up going back due to price.

Anyone ordered from this on line store. They seem legit.Best prices and the cannon is $80.00 less then reg store. Here is the link
http://www.mpsuperst...source=dealtime
Now ideally I would like to buy from mega stores but their sale price is 399.95 which is pretty steep. What do you guys think.Should I go ahead?buy? unsure.gif
