AN AZERBAIJANI WAR-CAPTIVE IS RELEASED TODAY BY THE ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES
12.06.2000 16.27
12.06.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. As a sign of display of good will and by the mediation of the
International Committee of Red Cross, today the authorities of Armenia released another Azerbaijani
war-captive - Vagif Rzayev. The war-captive was brought to Baku by a special flight.
Rzayev was born in Stepanakert in 1975, was taken prisoner in 1998. According to him, during the year of
his captivity no psychological or physical means of coercion were exerted on him. About his release Vagif
Rzayev learned 5 days ago. In the meeting with journalists Rzayev noted that he and other Azerbaijani
war-captives kept in Armenia are afraid of the consequences and of an arrest upon the return to Baku, and
declare that "it's better to die in the Armenian captivity than to return to Azerbaijan".
The head of the Fond "Against Legal Tyranny" Larisa Alaverdian informed that there are 7 more
war-captives still remaining in Armenia. As regards the Armenian war-captives, then, according to
Alaverdian, official Baku does not give any information about their number and conditions of keeping. -0-
