Aramazd mi arastse that it be gobblish.
Assuming that you are responding to this by Anoushik.
Yes, it is Armenian, well, kind of. Since that bird is not native to Armenia, it is assumed that the name came to us via the Semitic. In the Arabic “zalim” is the male of te species and “zliman” is te generic term. It definitely not Turkish, they call that bird “deve ghoushu/camel bird”. English “ostrich”, French “autruche”. Here is what took me by surprise.. German “strauss”. Of course, just as in the Armenian they may be using the term as a euphemism to mean “tall“.

Is that word Armenian?

By the way, the French word “hippopotame” and the Latin “hippopotamus” is just like Armenian “գետաձիgetatdsi” from the Greek hippo=horse and potamus=river to mean river horse.

QUOTE(anoushik @ Jun 19 2007, 04:06 PM)
I think երաժշտանոց sounds a bit too strange. They should just keep it konservatoria.

The Armenian equivalent to "konservatoria" should be pahpnatoun/ՊԱՀՊԱՆԱՏՈՒՆ goof.gif. You know, a place where things are conserved, preserved, like the places where apukht/ապուխտ (basturma for those whose mother tongue is turdish) biggrin.gif , fruit jams and pickles are made. tongue.gif
Since when konservatoria, conservatoire, conservatory end up meaning a school of music? Yes, the dict. says it means a place for special education like arts, music etc. Is it based on the fact in those paces culture and art are preserved?
Is that why Julliard calls itself "school of music " and not conservatory?
Also note that the Armenian word for conservative is pahpanoghakan/պահպանողական as opposed to liberal/ազատական.

Mi-means one
Andzn- means person
Uhi- suffix for the female gender
Miandznuhi- means one female person
Another example would be Migeghetzguhi meaning the beautiful one (female).

Միանձնուհի
Where do hear that word? This is the first time for me. It means single, unmarried woman, virgin, and by association - a nun. The dict. confirms it.
It is made up of mi=one, andz=person with the feminine ending ouhi. smile.gif
