Grig Balasanyan, an 11-year-old talented pianist from Yerevan, not
only perfectly masters the instrument but also creates music.
The young musician, who started taking lessons of piano at age seven,
is now the author of more than 10 songs.
Over the past year, Grig has managed to win awards from different
international and local music contests where he played his own works.
"I submitted the music Melody for the international contest for
young composers and won the first place. I later took part in the
international festival Renaissance to win the first prize in the
nomination Author's Song," he said.
Grig has also taken part in the Edward Mirzoyan Song Competition
where he was honored with an acknowledgement award.
"The world of music is where I see my future, so I am going to become
a composer. I will be admitted to the Edgar Gyanjumyan music school
in September and want to later pursue my studies at the Conservatory,"
the young musician said.
Grig admits that he normally gets down to creating musical at moments
of sadness.
"Every time I watch a movie or communicate with people, I feel certain
emotions rise. So I come home to start conveying those emotions through
music. Most of my music is in the minor mode which is sad," he added.
"Grig is very emotional; even after seeing a begging elderly lady in
the street, he will come home to play music over and over again to
appease his soul," his mother said.
The young composer's father added that Grig doesn't at all exert
painstaking efforts on composing music, as songs spring to his mind
spontaneously.
Grig is also the author of a composition First Love, which, as he
admitted with a little shyness, was written after he fell in love
with a classmate.
In commemoration of the Armenian Genocide centennial, Grig composed
the music Never Again, which he dedicates to the 1.5 million victims.
Presently, the young composer is working on two pieces: Elegy and
Lullaby.
